Curious evolved - how much times better in comparison to yellow curious?

Has any one used these cables in their system and have any feedback.

Thank you

I have upgraded from the Curious yellow to The Evolved, it is clearly better, how much better is difficult to quantify, definitely worth the upgrade.

I upgraded from the Curious USB to the WW Platinum Starlight 7 about a 3 weeks ago.  The WW is definitely better.  The difference is not night and day but more subtle.  On my system, the WW seemed to have a wider sound stage, better decay in instruments, hint more detail and clarity,  better precise imaging and a fuller bass.

I would recommend the WW Platinum Starlight 7 USB if you are feeding it to high quality DAC.  I have a Chord Hugo TT2 DAC and I think the WW Platinum complements the DAC very well as the TT2 is a detail retrieval master.

Thanks Ginman for the feedback, I am using Klein DAC 🙂

I think spending the $$ on the WW Platinum may be an overkill for the Klein DAC.  You are probably better off spending the money on a USB reclocker like a iFi Audio ipurifier 3 where you get more bang for your buck.   I actually use the iFi Audio micro iusb3.0 to cleanup the USB signal.

Honestly, the Curious USB is a very good cable for the price.  The only reason I upgraded to the WW was because I got a great deal.  Stick with the Curious USB for your Klein DAC as the WW Platinum will need a really good DAC to fully show the differences.

im leaning toward the Curious Evolve but i want a cable as short as possible (sub 1m). Half metre would be ideal. but the lengths offered are a little odd.

WW for me is way too expensive.

this USB cable will be connected between the Oppo 105 and Audio GD DI 20 HE.

You will get better improvement upgrading the dac (to clays new one) or a s/h Gross or Fein or something else. There may be other components in your setup which might give a better improvement also.  Hard to say without knowing what it is. Post a thread on what should I upgrade with what you perceive current sound as and how you would like it to improve and you will get a lot of opinions:)

BTW have had klein, curious and platinum but not evolved, (but made the improvement factor up based on price:devil:)

Agree with @frednork that you should consider upgrading the Klein. If you like the sound of Gieseler, then look at getting the new Kompakt, which is effectively a Klein IV or a second hand Klein III.

A good USB cable to consider

https://m8audio.com/product/kr-2-silver-usb/

Personally, I rate it better than the Curious, which has its own sound.

Hey Snoopy;

interested in how the m8audio cable is better than the curious in sound terms, it’s a bargain if it is at 1/5th the price !

@QCY if you are still interested in upgrading USB cables, don’t discount Nordost Heimdall 2, by all accounts it is better than the Wireworld platinum and is cheaper. I am going through this process myself. I have the curious evolved and about to get Heimdall 2 to compare. The other cable I have coming is the light harmonic LightSpeed 10g USB, which is from all accounts pretty good.

i tend to agree though about putting money into a better DAC, even though the Geiseler’s come with a giant slaying rep, I would put the money into the best Geiseler you can get and upgrade USB cable later when funds permit. You already have a decent USB cable.

The ViaBlue KR-2 (sold locally by M8 Audio), to my ears, sounds more transparent than the Curious. I even prefer it over Audioquest Diamond (& Carbon) !!! It is my suggested USB cable for people starting out.

Hi all,

For those interested, I have just listed my Curious Evolved USB cable.

It is definitely 'x' times better than what I had before...

I had the Curious USB, and upgraded to the Curious Evolved. At the same time i bought a Wireworld Silver Starlight 7.  In my opinion, the Evolved is better than both of these, with the WW SS7 just ahead of the standard Curious. I have yet to try the Platinum Starlight 7 or the Heimdall 2, but for now, I am very happy with the Evolved.

I should get around to listing the Silver Starlight 7, which is the 0.3m version.  @genkifd it might be of interest to you?

After some research I grabbed an Oyaide neo class A.

https://www.theabsolutesound.com/articles/oyaide-neo-d-class-a-usb-20-cable/

https://www.storedj.com.au/oyaide-neo-d-usb-2-0-class-a-cable-1m?gclid=Cj0KCQiAhZT9BRDmARIsAN2E-J2-ERQpRdDb3XiUePMqllAEcU5kbG6sv57wvrgF6t_u2_85iz8bBwEaAvp0EALw_wcB

Crazy difficult to get right now. I got mine from Amazon.

Alternatively there is a larger gauge model class S which is available. Same construction, apparently it sounds less organic.

I personally would not buy ‘DIY style’ USB cables like curious.
I have concerns relating to consistency of twist ratios, impedance, soldering. I suspect a machine made cable would have better tolerances. I.e WW starlight 8, and meet USB certification.

I personally expect no difference in sound, via my RME ADI2 dac vs a generic USB.

Will see.

Yes, absolutely.

In theory there should be no difference.

Whilst there is a USB standard, in the audiophile world, this is not the deciding factor in the sound signature of the cable.  In my experience, cables will sound different based on the conductor type, quality of the conductor material and the quality of the shielding.   The difference will be subtle.  How much of a difference you will hear is also very dependent on how revealing your system components are - a less revealing system will not show up the differences as much as a very revealing system.  There are so many variables and this is why this hobby is so interesting as it keeps pulling you in to try something else.

I have tried quite a few cables:

  • Furutech Formula 2
  • WW Chroma
  • Audioquest Carbon
  • Curious
  • WW Platinum

All of the cables sound good and matched my system at that time.    Cables change as you upgrade on your journey.  Based on the cables I have tried, the Curious is the best overall in terms of value and best sounding.   In my present system, I settled on the WW Platinum as it I love the very real imaging and sound stage, the clarity of the highs and the harmonics/decay of acoustic instruments are  amazingly real.

My 2 cents worth.

So he is talking about cables in general here. Well that's the way it reads..

Item: Curious Cable Interconnect RCA 1m
      Location: Sydney
      Price: $190 inc Postage
      Item Condition: Very Good
      Reason for selling: Surplus
Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal (+ 2.9% or as a friend/ family), COD Only
      Extra Info:
Bought this interconnect from a fellow SNA member (BigMac) who was selling a full Lenehan system. I initially bought this cable to pair with some Ribbonflex cable I bought from Mike and have since purchased a 2nd Ribbonflex cable on SNA. I am a sucker for matching cables... so these are now surplus. Refer previous SNA listing:

I couldn't find much info on the Curious interconnects but alot of info and reviews on the USB cable(which I own). I contacted Mike about the cable - found out that these are a prototype version of the Curious RCA and they have not been officially released yet. Sound wise Mike mentioned that they have a very similar sound signature to the Ribbonflex cables - I have not done A/B testing between the two cables. They are terminated with KLE harmony plugs.

Moving them on at the same price I purchased including postage.
