Here is a very solid performer for class A amplifier power. Built in 1997, it is an original model built by a single fellow in South Africa who still builds high-end integrateds, power amps, and phono stages under the brand 'ValveAudio'. This particular model is rated at 200W class A. I have driven 86db British vintage monitors with ease and excellent bass control and clear sound. Has a quad 6DJ8 tube compliment in the preamp stage.

Full disclaimer, this amp is not quiet enough for my ~100db 15" DIY speakers. There is a low frequency hum that I hear when music is not playing. With the aforementioned British monitors this is as you would expect, much less noticeable unless you have ear near the driver and no music playing. For those interested, have moved to 2.6W tube amp for the high-efficiency speakers and couldn't be happier to be running on flea watts!

Would not describe as a tubey sound but the hybrid design seems to compliment the bass control of Class A power with the openness associated with tubes. Overall, not an amplifier that appears frequently. I was not provided with a manual (only a review from an audiophile mag!) but had it serviced this year to get the all-OK electrical check. A new matched quad of JJ tubes is included in the price.

These are legendary back in their homeland and for good reason. Well known for routinely delivering significantly more power than their rated power

I'll let the designer know where No. 5 is doing the rounds - he likes to keep track.  :)

Very cool, thanks.

I had one correspondence with Schalk and he was quite surprised to hear that one had made its way to Australia. Glad to hear he is still around :)

He certainly is areal legend. Schalk started out as a tech in the same shop in Johannesburg where other audio legends like Tim de Paravinci of EAR worked. Schalk can confirm, but I think they were there at the same time.

Schalk is a master of everything valve, he builds his amps with the care of Jeff Rowland.

Between him and John Topham another guru from the far country, I was never afraid to take a gamble on a fried Audio Research or monster Conrad Johnson and saw many brought back to life in their care! This amp will outlast the purchaser and probably their children, buy with confidence!

May I ask what amp you moved onto, cheers Ben

Of course, although it may not be as helpful as you had wished.

switched to a flea watttube amp because I finished my DIY very high-efficiency speakers. So different situation, different purpose spurred the change in amp :)

Cheers,

Strong™ Universal Fine Adjust Projector Mounts for big Projectors up to 23kg.
SM-PROJ-XL-BLK RRP $480 Price includes delivery. Or you can pickup and save $30

I ordered two of these so someone else can benefit from the best projector bracket on the market. I've fitted this to the Epson flagship in my home cinema and it is completely invisible. Highly recommended for premium home theatre.

The main benefits are the fine adjustment rotary knobs that lets you precisely locate your image without keystone or overscanning so you maximise your projected picture quality. Anyone who's installed a projector with a regular bracket will attest that it's painful and time consuming to get it perfect as the one screw usually locks all 3 axis at once. And, usually when you tighten the screw, it goes out of precise position. And often they're a bit wobbly which causes image shake with big bass hits.

With this bracket, you can finely adjust the distance from the screen (within a small range); horizontal position; vertical position; and yaw (rotation) - all individually. That's four separate adjustments available.
Additionally, it's made to handle big, heavy projectors and keep them rigidly positioned so you don't get subwoofer induced picture vibration. I fitted one with the big Epson 9300W and love it. Enough talk, below is the sales blurb.

Equipped with longer mounting arms and security screw holes, these projector mounts are specifically designed to handle oversized models up to 50 lbs., including JVC projectors, while offering maximum installation flexibility. They feature tool-less adjustments - so getting the ideal alignment is a breeze - and have a simple three-piece design that minimizes time spent at the top of the ladder. Also included is a plastic cover to keep the install looking neat and tidy.

      Tool-Less Adjustments
Getting a projector image to perfectly align with a screen is easier said than done. Thankfully this mount simplifies the process with easy-to-use vertical tilt, horizontal roll and yaw adjustments. Just pop off the cover and use the tool-less dials to make micro adjustments until the ideal alignment is achieved - no tightening or loosening of the screws required.
      Easy To Install
A smart three-piece design makes it easy to get this projector securely installed. The top plate attaches to the ceiling and screws into the mount assembly body, while the bottom plate (with attached projector) simply slides and locks into place. It makes installing the product fast and easy.
      Security Screws
This mount features multiple security screws for projector attachment, as well as screws on each side of the mounting base - which all help to lock things in place. Move the mount around until you get the perfect center of gravity for the projector, then tighten down the screws and you’re good to go!
      Mounting Flexibility
For the most versatility in your next installation, this projector mount features longer arms that extend for up to 17.7” diameter mounting. Plus it has a series of slots on the arms and the bottom plate that provide almost limitless placement options, so it’s easy to get the projector perfectly positioned. Need to install directly in concrete or ceiling drywall? Not a problem – just use the included hardware.
      Extension Capability
If you want to drop the projector off the ceiling with an extension pole, we've included a separate ceiling plate to allow for easy connection to the pipe. Also included is a plastic cover to keep the install looking neat and tidy.
