Really is one of the best vocals I’ve ever heard

And the the Stills Young guitars turn fairly silly lyrics into a great song on the 1st or 2nd record I ever played on my own stereo

And Helpless the song that drove me into a lifelong love of Neil Young and the background to a decade of surfing

2 beers and half a bottle of wine

None of which would pass the muster on the currently drinking thread

 but here I am with a head not spinning and looking at least another hour

And hoping to get up at 4 to watch the meteor shower

so here’s what’s keeping my head in a stationary position

Proof of my impeccable and on going good taste

First record I ever bought

I’ve liked a lot of different records and been obsessed with different players over decades but there has never been a time when these 70’s Neil Young records weren’t played

<discogs snip>:

The original British release of "My Generation" LP comprised of track 1 to 12 on CD One and was Brunswick Records LAT 8616, December 3, 1965.
The American release was titled "The Who Sings My Generation" and was comprised of tracks 1 to 9, 11 to 13, CD One. It was issued as Decca DL 4664 (mono) amd DL7-4664 (stereo), April 25, 1966

<end snip>

Playing a burn that puts all the tracks into chronically logical order.

Hi All,

Started the day with the Endless Melancholy / Desolate Horizons, Wide As The Golden Ocean, ambient music with the theme of the sea in firstly a deep, tranquil state, and the second movement darker and stormier.

This again.....as it was still sitting on the platter (and for a second critical listen without the influence of my evening meds!😂).....so far, same result.....it's far from bad.

I mentioned in the Aldi vinyl thread that it appears this recording has done the bootleg rounds......well, it certainly has. I was aware of two others.....but now? I have found many many more.

This page: http://www.spookeend.nl/gnr/sweet-child-o-mine/  lists all the bootlegs of the Ritz 88 performance below the write up on this LP:

As you can see, there are a lot of GnR Ritz 88 bootlegs.🙄 27 to be exact.....all on vinyl.🤨

Decided to put another live album on to compare with the GnR live 'bootleg'.....another performance that is a great concert but not one of the best live recordings by a long shot in my opinion....."If You Want Blood" AC/DC 2009 George Marino remaster, recorded 10 years earlier than the GnR Ritz effort.

https://img.discogs.com/FGBTES4U835qyiuR15qKDRdPm_s=/fit-in/600x600/filters:strip_icc():format(jpeg):mode_rgb():quality(90)/discogs-images/R-371079-1441888057-2805.jpeg.jpg

The result.....is it better? Well yes but not by that much.....the mastering is better as it should be but overall, Mr Marino is limited by a fairly ancient recording and the results are still some way off being great but it still captures the raw atmosphere of the performance very well. In comparison, the GnR Musicbank record SQ is quite ok considering it's 'unofficial' status and cheap price (if bought at Aldi)......and overall, it's not all that far behind the SQ of "If You Want Blood" IMO.

Enough of the imperfect 'live' stuff.....time for some studio perfection.

Yeah, the name comes from the song. There was also an Aus bluegrass band called the Rank Strangers in the 90s but I found out about that later. I used to listen to lots and lots of bluegrass but I hardly listen to any now. Changing tastes etc. Funny how the passing thought of a moment can stick around for the better part of a decade ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Just then,  Eartha Kitt - Legends (Cheap Op Shop copy, with intermittent high frequency reverb/ shriek. Hideous noise). Had enough of it, a few songs in.
