I saw these guys play at The Ettalong Beach Memorial Club on The Central Coast NSW.  The stage was on the second floor of the club and I swear the floor was moving up and down.  A great band, awesome live and a fantastic Album.

This morning's music. For obvious reasons. RIP the Queen of Soul.

[edited at the end of the session to add:

- I hadn't realised that the band "Sisters are doing it or themselves" is the Heartbreakers (Tom Petty's band) as the players.

- One of the hits from "Who's Zoomin' Who" has more than a passing nod to 1971's single "Rock Steady".

- And for all the virtues of the Atlantic singles, it's Amazing Grace that is the standout. If you haven't heard it, it's actually the touchstone for the Blues Brothers soundtrack: Jake and Elmore* said "that's the sound and feel we want but sanitised for the mass market". (I'm not complaining, it made perfect commercial sense to do so, there's lots of white people won't ever dream of buying black gospel music and the last thing you want with something as big as a feature film is for it to flop, so safe options are usually good options. But if you want a richer, grittier, deeper listening experience, play this after the other, because [and it's probably unfashionable to say this] they will segue quite well). If you like one, you will like the other.]

* which goes to show that the Blues Brothers managed to get the mix of respect, parody, and self-parody pretty much right. Credit to them, in hindsight it's a remarkable achievement which could easily have gone so wrong in any number of ways. But this is a post about Aretha so I use tiny font. Cheers.

Electric Light Orchestra - Secret Messages - giving my original UK pressing a spin.  The newly released 2 LP as originally conceived double album Jeff Lynne had written before being quashed by the record company to pair it down to single album. is it sitting at work waiting to be picked up.

:thumb: I have the LP and the CD of this. And coincidentally I was listening to The Spy File compilation this morning on my Kiddie's Saturday Sportsball Taxi Service shift.

@hired goon highly interested; is it flac or other lossless? Cheers.

The Headphone Commute mixes are free downloads available as 320k MP3 (generally) although this mix is 256k MP3. But highly recommended regardless.

The Angels 'Two Minute Warning' 1984 Mushroom Records Aust. Made in Japan.

I've written this about them before.  They are the band I have seen most in my life.  Intense, dramatic and mysterious live performances.  The anticipation leading up to a gig was memorable, and the anticipation of the crowd on the night was electric.  They played regularly at The Central Coast Leagues Club in Gosford, where I grew up.  It was a great venue holding 2000 people.  I saw Motorhead play there in 1984 with about 50 people, and that was a highlight of my life, I was in year 11;  front and centre with Lemmy and the new four piece band, Wurzel handed me a beer (although he shook the sh*t out of it first).  They played as though the room was full and my ears were ringing for three days.

I was lucky enough to be invited back stage to meet The Angels at one gig.  Doc was a very tall dude and quite intimidating as they were on a high after a great set.  We had a few drinks with them, they were very friendly, and I scored a pair of signed drum sticks that Brent Eccles used that night; Man!!! were they chopped and battered!

Great Memories.  'Two Minute Warning' is my favourite Album, but I don't have it on Vinyl yet.

Cheers Ant.

PS. Respect for Aretha Franklin.  Although I don't listen to her style of music, I have no problem acknowledging true talent and influence. R.I.P.
