amdan
HI guys - could someone please let me know of a DSD and/or high resolution track(s) on Tidal? I have never seen any of my DACs show more than CD quality input when using Tidal. Thanks.
Volunteer sir sanders zingmore Posted September 19, 2020 Volunteer Share Posted September 19, 2020 (edited) Tidal does not have DSD (I don’t think any streaming service does) As far as high resolution tracks go, I believe those are limited to only the MQA offerings Edited September 19, 2020 by sir sanders zingmore
buddyev
Don’t think they have DSD. you have to select hi res in audio quality settings
mjs
The Tidal offering is basically CD quality lossless FLAC. Some albums are also offered in MQA format which is a means of getting higher sample/bit rates than CD quality, although It seems that MQA is a bit controversial, not everyone is convinced by the quality. You need MQA compatible hardware/software at your end to take advantage of it. Qobuz offers lossless FLAC recordings still better than CD quality, although subscription in Oz is problematic. Others gave correctly noted that DSD is not offered by any streaming service, I assume that required bitrate and bandwidth would be an issue. Demondes
Seems there is one small provider offering DsD streaming https://primeseat.net/en/ i found it hard to find out what you can stream, seems to be mostly Japanese recorded classical music. I haven’t used I just googled around. the main way to get DSD is purchase tracks online or rip tracks from SACD disks
Snoopy8
https://www.nativedsd.com/ has Classical, Jazz DSD that you can buy. There are some on https://www.hdtracks.com/ The only reliable way to get DSD music is to buy the SACDs and rip them using an Oppo 103/105. amdan
Thanks all. That's great information. I want aware that Tidal didn't have much more than CD quality. I can't decode MQA so that's not an option.
Volunteer sir sanders zingmore Posted September 20, 2020 Volunteer Share Posted September 20, 2020 If you have Roon, it does the first part of the decode for you. As does the Tidal app I believe. What that actually means, I have no idea but I’ve read some people say that most of the impact comes from that first decode.
amdan
Thanks. I might have to look into getting Roon. I use my Innuos streamer to stream tidal. I don't think that unfolds MQA.
