Just like legendary "Little Deuce Coupe" the Beach Boys sang about with a souped-up motor concealed under its hood, you can do the same with your LP12 turntable !

Up for grab is new (in a box) Mober DC motor upgrade kit for Linn LP12. Background story to this , It was a toss-up between Lingo 4 and Mober DC. I decided to go with the Mober DC as i am not ready to spend on Lingo 4 to upgrade my old Linn LP12 which was built in the 70s. So I bought a few of these kits from H.K to try out.  After upgrading with Mober DC I was gobsmacked by the improvement it made to overall performance of my Linn LP12. Music flows effortless, fluid and the DC motor was dead quite (when no music is playing, placing my ear almost touching the plinth). Bass is tighter and more importantly now speed is stable and accurate 33rpm/45rpm. Previously, on Valhalla PSU and original AC motor i can hear tempo of the music is inconsistent (fluctuates). You can check speed using mobile app or handheld tachometer, or old school light strobe.

Here is one of many independent reviews on Mober DC kit you can find on google https://www.hifiaf.com/installing-mober-dc-motor-kit/

Whats included in the Mober DC kit :

  • 1 x Installation and user manual.
  • 1 x Mober DC Speed Control Unit (Black )

  • 1 x Mober DC Motor with mounting screws.
  • 1 x Tachometer with mounting bracket and screw.
  • 1 x Cable management.
  • 1 x Mober Badge
  • 1 x Sticker 16 Point Marker Ring
  • 1 x Communication cable between DC motor/Tachometer and Mober Control Unit.

Excluded : IEC Power cable. You can use standard 3 pin kettle cord or upgrade to Isotek IEC cables.

Note : Mober DC Speed Control kit installation takes about 2-3 Hours to complete. Well, you cant go anywhere during stage 4 lock down anyway !

My recommendation is to use a LP12 turntable jig or any DIY jig to complete the installation. If you don't have a jig, text me. I have completed quite a few Linn LP12 upgrade /modification if you need any help, please contact me i am happy to assist via zoom or watsapp.

I'm a big fan of Mober. It is not as hard or daunting as you may think. Even I managed to do this and still loving it, still dead silent.

Thanks @rodders3 Mober quality is good indeed and value great value for money. Your pics are fantastic and great write up. Love your jig (2 chairs). Wanted to that but not brave enough afraid my lp12 falls and break into pieces :). Built my own jig. Might make it available on SNA. It's great for people like us encourage others to DIY. Not good to sit idle during stage4  lockdown. It affect the "head". Thanks again.

Great unit, not hard to put it in, Edmund's instructions are clear and easy.

I took the seat out of an old chair to do mine and the digital control is just fantastic. I tossed up about getting the cheaper Moses Hercules but I'm glad I went this way.

@Luc thanks!. I have both the Hercules mose+ and Mober DC. When music not playing and platter still spinning putting my ears close to turntable, I find that DC motor is quieter than AC driven motor.

Quad or really 2 pairs of RFT EL34's  which have been tested on a hickok 750 tester, they pass gas and shorts and all test above new spec and all within 5%.  One pair has the RFT boxes and slightly bigger base, The other pair has no boxes and has a sligtly thinner base. happy to split the pairs if I have a buyer for both. Structurally they are essentially the same. They all are the single halo getter type.

RFT stands for Rundfunk- und Fernmelde-Technik - a group of state-owned technology companies in the former German Democratic Republic (East Germany). This company produced valves for Telefunken and Siemens and made the famous Siemens EL34. These valves are of very good quality and have excellent consistency. They have been making valves for Siemens etc since the 60's and are considered by some to be some of the best EL34's made (that you can still buy relatively easily) .

These are still available from some retail tube sellers at around RRP $650+ or even more on scumbay for a good set.

For sale is a pair of rare and very closely matched Sylvania 6SN7W short bottle tubes. These pass gas and shorts tests and measure as new.

The 6SN7W came in 3 varieties a tall bottle metal base. A pair sold on here recently for a bargain IMO as retailers charge $500US/tube  There is also a tall bottle plastic base version and a short bottle version.  Although the metal is most valued they all have a very similar signature and are considered as one the best 6SN7 made in the US, . look em up

      Postage is included

      These are marked JAN-CHS- 6SN7W,
Here is some info from a nice resource on 6sn7's https://www.head-fi.org/threads/the-6sn7-identification-guide.209782/

      VT-231s and ‘JAN’ rated 6SN7s

The VT-231 designation was a military inventory control number, and should be taken as nothing more than that. Assuming identical construction, there is zero difference between a tube labeled VT-231 and a 6SN7GT of the same vintage. A lot of mystique has been built up around VT-231 labeled tubes by tube sellers, and many people mistakenly believe

‘JAN’ stands for ‘Joint Army-Navy’, and was meant to indicate that the tubes labeled as such were ‘passed’ for military use. However, no additional criteria that were not already fulfilled by the 6SN7GT specification were known to have been imposed. ‘JAN’ labeled tubes are identical to non-JAN tubes of the same vintage and construction.

The ‘JAN’ naming convention was always written as follows:

      JAN-<manufacturer>-<tube type>

Thus examples of JAN ratings would include: JAN-CTL-6SN7GT, JAN-CHS-5U4G, JAN-CRC-6AS7G, etc.

      JAN manufacturer abbreviations:
      CHS – Sylvania
      CHY – Hytron or CBS-Hytron
      CKR – KenRad
      CL – GE
      CRC – RCA
      CRP – Raytheon

      18mm spigot.

To the best of my knowledge, this will fit pretty much all Rega P/RP/Planar turntables - 1/2/3/4/5/6/7 etc.

Excellent condition aside from a couple of superficial marks.

I've done my best to photograph them. The one near the spindle nearly goes all the way around. No idea how it got there, but it's not really noticeable.

      Thanks for looking.
