Goldring E3 broke after first play

Recommended Posts

Well I bought a new Goldring E3 today and I installed it as per the Manuel says, used a scale for tracking weight (2.0g) and a protractor for alignment.

In the middle of the first album I decided to play the stylus broke and collapsed onto the record. Not sure what happened, if I did something or if it’s a faulty stylus.

have you guys ever had a similar experience or know what might of happened?

cheers

Goldring have VERY fragile cantilevers, I have fixed a few of them. My guess is you bumped it down onto the record or made a mistake setting the tracking force and set it too high. Arm need to be floated so it just hovers over the record (this is zero point) then dial in 2g.

I really doubt they will exchange that for you. I can repair it if you need, PM me if I can help.

Chris

So after finding myself in a music store with that old familiar joy of looking through vinyl albums I wanted to add a turntable to my setup. The Project X1  is what I was thinking I would dip my toe in with.

I have boxes of vinyl of classical from the old family home, but they are in average to poor condition. (but recordings I cannot get any more) So my question is:

If I am playing both new and old vinyl records,  am I going to destroy the needle? What do others here do about their original and mint collection without killing a $300 needle?

      Thanks!

Ortofon OM5E originally came with my Project Debut purchased in November 2019, taken off when I upgraded to 2M Red in mid 2020.
In excellent condition, used for less than 30 hours (I play my TT ~1hr per week).
      Cheers!

This cartridge has had somewhere between 100 to 150 hours use and is in perfect condition. I can't remember the exact retail price when purchased new but from memory it was around $2500 give or take.

I'm selling simply because I decided to upgrade to a different cartridge. This wasn't due to any outright criticism of the Pi itself but simply due to that never ending "itch" to always try and improve on what you've got! IMHO it's a fantastic all round cartridge - nicely balanced and superbly detailed.

As you can see from the photos the cantilever is in perfect condition. Included are the stylus cleaning brush, standard fastening screws which come in two lengths and a pair of washers.
