W.A.R. Audio PHL Reference monitors (45kg per 113x25x38 floorstander):
PHL 1220 bass units x 3 per speaker - http://www.waraudio.com.au/p/8773969/phl-1220b17.html
PHL midrange 1120 units: http://www.waraudio.com.au/p/8744953/phl-1120e17.html
Raven point source tweeters: http://www.waraudio.com.au/p/9058298/raven-point-source.html
Driver cost: $1888+$1200=$3088 (plus cabinets, crossovers, design & construction) c$7000. Efficiency 90db/W/m. Frequency range extends to 40kHz and Pat O’Brien designer/builder says flat down to 40Hz. These are very revealing and musical speakers and quite easy to drive and front ported so can place near rear wall. I used Nanotec cabling as sold by Pat and used to voice his speakers. Purchased this pair from Conrad1970 who advised they are only a few years old. My wife wants black speakers that match her piano. I prefer more bottom end but it is hard to integrate a subwoofer as my Electrocompaniet 4.8 preamp has only one set of XLRs out and there are room space issues. I sold Dynaudio Confidence C2 Signatures for a similar (bass) reason but for most there is sufficient bass. I also have two other pairs of speakers set up.

These are bespoke speakers made by the legendary Pat O'Brien in Perth so rarely reviewed. Current standmounts reviewed at US$6500 in 2006: http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/waraudio/dianne.html

Floorstanders made in early 2000s with current $18,000 RRP sold recently for around $7000: https://www.stereo.net.au/forums/topic/259540-eoi-war-audio-reference-one/
Current flagship speakers over $100,000, see: https://www.stereo.net.au/forums/topic/307083-war-audio%C2%A0focal%C2%A0reference-1-loudspeakers/

Given speaker weight and bespoke provenance (and my aging body) greatly prefer local demonstration and collection in Adelaide. However, to get them from Perth courtesy of Rockeater custom made cardboard boxes were made that both fit inside the custom made wooden box pictured with mini pallet forklift friendly base which will enable secure interstate transport if you organise your own courier (TNT got them here).

Few coats of industrial grade black glossy paint will give excellent finish...even if you hire professional  to do it, it should not cost more than few hundred dollars...

Hi,

I've heard Pat's speakers on many occasions.  The phl driver is an amazing component and the raven tweeters are second to none.  There is a reason why manufacturers don't use raven tweeters basically due to the cost.  I'm sure that these speakers would sound superb.  At there price they are an absolute bargain. Nothing retail would sound anywhere near as good.  Best of luck.  Cheers Rod

Leave the finish as is: gloss piano black is a nightmare! Just bought a new set of speakers or I would be seriously into these speakers.

Cheers

Thank you for the comments. I will leave it to a buyer to decide on the aesthetics. I have priced these to sell given my space constraints.

If I was in a position to buy them they'd be sold already.

I haven't heard these speakers but being a huge fan of anything Pat Obrien has built, I would bet every dollar I own on these sounding phenomenal.

The man is a genius speaker builder and I have sat down and listened to many of his bespoke builds and have been blown away every single time.

Item Condition: Perfect with all accessories Shipping Options: Pickup available and you can audition. Suburb or Town: Kallaroo, Perth State: Western Australia Payment Method: EFT, Cash Reason for selling: No Longer Required Further information:

As new SVS SB16 Ultra subwoofer with Soundpath Isolation feet. All accessories and original packaging included.
These units now retail at $5,499 and are currently on special around the place at $4,949.
I would rather sell locally due to size and weight of this unit as shipping will be costly, BUT also happy to look at helping someone organise their own shipping if needed.
