hiya
FYI: shipping is not free to Oz - Everywhere else in the world (including NZ) - put Oz in as destination and shipping charge shows as Singapore $9,999.00 Message from Vinshine re this anomaly: We have an Australian partner Stav who helps us to import the products. The price on our website includes shipping, however, it doesn't include the local import tax, duties, sale tax. Also, due to the direct sales business, Stav is not getting a lot of margin from the sales, he needs some margin to cover his effort for local warranty, and services. I hope you could support him to buy from him. Many thanks. Yours sincerely, Alvin Chee VINSHINE AUDIO PTE. LTD. (SINGAPORE)
Jon Snow
@DSD_Fan @hiya looks like there is no buy direct option for us in Oz. The extra $400 to buy locally pushes the Ares into the next bracket for me - I think I will buy the MHDT Orchid DAC for a few hundred more.

Jon Snow
I’m 90% sold on the Orchid. Just want to suss out the Audio Mirror Tubadour III. It’s a few hundred more again but has a chip that plays 24/192. I asked for thoughts from a reviewer who has reviewed both DACs.
John0001
The Ares II is a superb DAC, highly recommend Stav also - great service/support.
Jon Snow
@john001 I was keen on getting a used Ares 2 to live with for a while. By all accounts it’s a terrific sounding dac. If I have to buy new , the pricing puts other DACs into consideration.
rx79ez08
I guess also whether you need DSD. The Ares 2 do native DSD, and comes with very good Windows driver. Neither of the 2 DACs you mention do that. Strav is great to deal with. Edited August 12, 2020 by rx79ez08
Jon Snow
That’s right. I’d forgotten that. Whilst I do have a few DSD albums I think I can live without it. It would be nice to have decoding ability. Ares has got a lot going for it.
