Hi all.

I'm after a bit of advice about whether I should sell my Marantz Model 6300 turntable and buy a new one, or if that is a silly idea. It is in really good condition and I am only the second owner since it was made in the 70s, but it has never really 'done it' for me. It's fiddly to set up and I still don't know if I have it right.  Lucky i don't play records that much. They are worth a reasonable amount second hand and I am wondering if I sell it for around $700, am I going to be able to buy a new one for the same amount that is will sound any better.

It would also be nice to get one with USB to convert my records to digital for playing in the car, but am also not sure if the players in that price range that do it actually sound any good.

Any advice or info would be appreciated.

In some ways, I think that you already have the answer to this. You are not enjoying it and it is worth a reasonable amount so you have some options.

It sounds to me that something more plug and play with known good sound quality might be the best option for you.

Forget buying a turntable to digitise your records, buy a dedicated aftermarket device to connect to your TT if you want to do that.

Given the foregoing, I would suggest that a Rega TT would meet you needs.

I'd be selling it to get something you enjoy better.... That said it doesn't mean you have to go new. A JVC/Victor QL-Y5 is the best performing table I've ever run and perversely one of the least expensive. You could get one direct from Japan for around $700 or so, get a full recap done for about $300 and still have change left over.

The s shaped servo controlled arm will take universal headshells and will get the best from almost any cart (provided it's not too heavy), out tracking anything else I've ever experience. Just spectacular.

Hey @Fletch02that Marantz 6300 is meant to be a pretty nice turntable, maybe don't be too hasty to sell it.  I doubt you'd get something equal let alone better, for the money.  When things get back to relative normal consider getting it serviced and set up by a good technician?

Found this service write up by a (Perth based) service tech https://liquidaudio.com.au/marantz-model-6300-turntable-service-review/

You can also just connect the output of the phono stage to the line in on a PC with a lead like below, and capture the recording as it plays with the free program 'Audacity'

All for the cost of a cable.

Thanks guys for all your feedback. I might persevere with it a bit longer and spend a bit more time with it and see how the copying straight to computer works.

This really is a great forum for knowledge and support.

Cheers,

Fletch
