Why wasn't this album HUGE?

In '76 I was living in Oxford and one of my co-workers at the Cowley Working Men's Club told me that I just had to hear this, and I was gobsmacked. Wonderful title song, the Joe in question being Ioseb Besarionis dzе Jugashvili, more commonly known as Josef Stalin. After singing Superstar and seeing it climb the charts a few years earlier many people expected Murray Head to become, well, a superstar. What happened there? The rest of the album is a joy to listen to, let me assure you.

Say It Ain't So - 180 Gram Vinyl 2017 Limited Ed.

I have to admit that this is the only album of his that I own, and I cannot even tell you why I didn't buy any more.

Apparently it (the title song) is featured in Snow Peircer on Netflix. Also, apparently, he went on to be big in France. There's worse things that could happen to a fellow. He's acted a little, even in one episode of Vera, I think. His brother, Anthony, was in Buffy the Vampire Slayer for years and can often be seen in British tv shows.

Roger Daltrey recorded a strong, though far less nuanced, version of this a while back, as well.

Removed Nigel, corrected to Anthony. Where was I?

Haha!

To me - Anthony Head played Giles in Buffy... His brother, Murray, apparently had an album...

Anyway - ty, I have another to listen to!

Here’s his brother (yes, it’s him singing) doing a great pub rendition of Behind Blue Eyes:

I like both of Murray's first two albums. He covers a lot of ground from folk to jazz/funk, pop/rock to psych. Well worth a look.

Michael Chapman is another under rated artist from the same era (and in the same section of my hard drive). "Fully qualified survivor" is a good starting point...

Bangkok, Oriental setting
And the city don't know that the city is getting
The creme de la creme of the chess world
In a show with everything but Yul Brynner

And then came Mike Tyson. Murray would have been disappointed.
