Both are sweet sounding players

With  the Apollo, Rega aimed for a more analogue sounding player

The Apollo R in combo with the DAC R the sound is more variable with the filters In use

I'd have the original Apollo or Saturn over the R series any day.

Sellers regret when I sold my Apollo for $450 six or seven odd years ago. The R's haven't held their price like these and the laser replacements for them are readily available.

Aesthetically there's no comparison, this design is classic and the R's are a volvo.

GLWTS.

Agree 100%

I have the original Saturn, which is the same form factor and successor to  this and in my system/s, it has seen off various CD players at multiple times its cost. The Sanyo laser assembly used on these is also a far higher quality than what is used in most new players under $2K and they are readily available if and when needed and very easy to do yourself or via a technician.

I recently had the entire assembly replaced for a total cost of $80 inclusive of labour.

Mine won't be going anywhere, even if I find something better for a sane price.

While I liked the Saturn it was, to my ear at the time, a little soft-sounding as a player but nothing for similar money could touch it as a transport. This Apollo OTOH was just goldilocks right and I’m sad I never got to own one while I was still playing CDs.

the Jupiter though. Oof, don’t get me started *chef’s kiss* :D

Agree with the posts above. Rega's original Apollo is something quite special, especially in the midrange.

Such an enjoyable, musical listening experience. Very hard to beat.

I owned the original Apollo a few years ago.  Most musical spinner I’ve every owned. Always regretted selling it

Great pickup at a fantastic price

Well looked after of an amazingly built SACD/CD player by Marantz. One owner only and used in a smoke free and child free environment. The lenses have been replaced by Qualifi Melbourne in recent years, so the player is pretty much ‘NEW’.

      Can arrange delivery in Melbourne.
