There is plenty of lore and legend around the famed 1200. These have been the sometimes rough, but always ready choice for DJ's and Vinyl heads for almost 50 years. The MK5 was released in 2002, and i bought this new in 2012.

This comes with a Shure M44-7 cart with a recent stylus replacement. The rca out cords have been upgraded to a higher quality, shielded interconnect, and the whole unit serviced by Technics 1200 specialist technician Doctor Groove (https://www.facebook.com/drgroovecustoms/). The unit includes the $200 plastic dust cover attached to the plinth/housing.

I've kept this clean, serviced it twice, and treated it with care over the last 8 years. Sad to move her on - but an upgrade adventure awaits.

Please note: While I can ship this item, for obvious reasons I'd much prefer a local pickup. Also, if you happen to live on the Gold Coast, or are from Brisbane and want to meet me half way, I'm happy to drive it as far as Tweed/Coolangatta to drop it off. I'l do this at no extra cost.

I have one of these with an Ortofon Black 2M Cartridge. it sits beside my infinitely more expensive Linn LP12 with a Van Den Hul one special. And I can tell you the Technics is just so much more fun a TT to listen to. GLWTS man. (I paid more for my SL1200 MK5 than your asking so that’s a pretty fair price too)

They are an awesome thing, and I had planned to own it forever. My dad is more or less giving me a Clearaudio performance TT with Linn Ekos arm and Akiva Cart.

I only have space for 1 setup with a kid on the way - so It has to go. Hopefully to someone who appreciates it.  letting go of an era!

Argh! I just commenced my Lenco project or this would be perfect!

Excellent condition and only a tiny bit more than most are asking for MK2 units with a completely beat up cover!

I assume that's a JICO stylus?       (I'm still annoyed with Shure for discontinuing the N447)

I've been contemplating this for one of my 1200 MKII's for years but want to keep a stock pair for for my bedroom DJing.        If OP was in VIC I'd be very tempted to grab this one for upgrades.

Not sure what you are going to upgrade it with, I have a sl1200G and a mk2 and a SP10mk2, the lightly modded sl1200mk2 is up there with the others. I admit it has a psu from Kab and an arm damper and a few other minor mods, but dont expect massive gains from whatever you get, I have 7 turntables if the rest is right the Technics will sing. Looks like a nice turntable for someone. My though for what it is worth, it will take a far far far better cart.

All the best and good luck

Chris

Yeah, thats fair. I hadn't thought about the 1200 upgrade path. I've heard of amazing results. I'm busy though and like to keep it simple.

I think at a certain point its not about what's better or worse sounding. Its like ice cream. I've had this for 10 years, and It's time to try a different flavour.

I'm inheriting A Clearaudio Performance DC with a Linn Ekos SE tonearm and Linn Akiva cart with Linto Phono.

If I'm disappointed by the SQ of that setup compared to the SL1200, Then I'l really have to do some audiophile soul searching...

Just my 2c you are for sure going sideways, enjoy your new turntable it is very nice looking, but spec wise it is inferior to the Technics both rumble and wow and flutter. Good turntable though. If it was me I would just get longer shelf and keep both :)

Good luck with sale nice turntable, I hope it goes to a good home.
