Settings in regards to sample rates

Recommended Posts

Hi All, trying to work out what settings are appropriate in the chain of Digital to analogue.

I'm playing a mixed bag of digital files (94kHz to 192kHz/24 bit) and spotify from a computer. I've enabled the player in windows  to do 24 bit.

Next up the DAC is connected with a USB cable and I have set the DAC under settings/audio in windows 10 for 94/24 (a happy medium?).

I've matched the settings on the DAC to 94/24.

Could someone explain what my best bet is in regards to setting up 'the chain' of devices when I listen to certain things (spotify, HD tracks,...) and why?

Thanks heaps!

For your music files if you use a software player that supports WASAPI or ASIO you can get bit perfect to your DAC if that's what you want.

The output can change depending on the bit depth and sample rate of the file.

This makes the bit depth and sample rate of your sound device in Windows not applicable as it is bypassed.

Spotify under Windows, that's another matter.

Using the Spotify app under Windows it does not support WASAPI or ASIO.

I set my sound device to 16bit-44k to match its output as closely as possible and with volume at 100%.

I've read to believe that this still won't give you bit perfect because the Windows sound will still do some processing.

I'm happy to live with it.

But, I've never done it but below is apparently a method to get bit perfect from Spotify to your DAC under Windows.
