No more donation goals and their history?

Recommended Posts

Has the monthly donation goal been removed, as well as the histories?  It would be nice to see how we are tracking.

The "goals" was a manual process I had to set up each month, and involved quite a bit of admin to keep it up to date. The other problem is that as more and more "software" becomes SAAS, the monthly costs change depending on level of bandwidth, number of users, and other variables making it hard to even predict a goal each month (take the last 3 months where we've seen 35% increase in traffic for example).

Ultimately, the "goal" functionality was lost in a forum software upgrade (where the plugin was not updated by the author) anyway so was then removed - it was quite some time ago now.

History is not lost - it can be found here: https://www.stereo.net.au/forums/donate/donations/ and is also recorded on each users public profile.

Is it possible to display all previous monthly totals of donations, without Goals?  In the current Goals sub tab, I can see first page and can jump to the last page and can see Aug 2019 and the Bush Fire appeal.  But nothing else ?

I can't even see that. As mentioned, the goals part of the addon is not working properly.

Marc, don't get me wrong, I am happy to donate and was about to do so this year.  It would be good for transparency if there are monthly totals and you could give us a quarterly (?) report on how much the donations cover the SaaS costs.

Back in the day before the site was commercialised we relied almost solely on the donations to cover our costs. It never actually covered it but certainly contributed and allowed the site to prosper and evolve into the resource it is today. As mentioned, having a target is redundant now the site is commercial and the actual operating costs are a constant moving target (and now many times what they once were).

We no longer ask for general donations, and that's why you don't see us pushing them - except for the Classifieds where anyone who sells something via this site once they report an item as sold, they're invited to make a 'donation' in return for successful use of the service. There's no expectation of anyone to make a donation to contribute to the costs of running this site, the business model now relies primarily on advertisers to do that, but thank you for your offer to donate in support of the site.

This has been discussed previously in other threads, and in an ideal world we'd no longer call them donations as we're not a non-for-profit organisation, they would ideally be called 'selling fees', or 'contributions'. If the software interface allowed us to, I would change the term used.

As a private gst-registered business, I'm happy with the level of transparency current being provided. Happy to discuss this or any other concerns you have via PM.
