For full dynamic range  what is needed is companding, and not relying on the ability of a medium that does not use companding.

With a companding system the artist would compress during recording, and your player would expand at the opposite mathematical rate

to achieve full dynamic range, very closely matching the original performance. Examples of this applying to LP are here, showing that you need

the expansion part to hear its capability.

CD's you purchase,  should be done the same way.  So much can be achieved in audio - but is held back by proprietary corporate outlooks.

With regard to MA Recordings, what to make of  this?

< Nevertheless Todd experimented widely with enhancements to the medium. It was through Todd that we were put in touch with the Nespa photonic finalizer, a device that bombards a CD with photons from a Xenon flashbulb, somehow alters the material physics of the CD and results in a more relaxed sound. >

DR values in the teens are usually considered to be good and peek values less than 0.00dB are usually considered good but there is a bit more to it.

A lot of 0.00dB peaks in a track can indicate clipping.
