MM cart recommendations
Im looking at buying a Systemdeck IIX turntable with a Micro Seiki CF-2 tonearm. It has no stylus/cart and I'm not sure what would be the best MM cart for it considering the lightness of the arm? Any advice would be much appreciated.

From the searching I've just done ... the CF-2 seems to be an excellent arm - but very light (eff mass of 6 or 7 gms).

Therefore you need a relatively high compliance cart - this means an MM, not an MC.

Looking at the VE Resonance Evaluator - here:

https://www.vinylengine.com/cartridge_resonance_evaluator.php?eff_mass=7&submit=Submit

I would suggest compliance around 20, weight from 5gm to 10gm.

Grab a NOS Empire 2000E/III. Pretty unbeatable for the price and still readily available on eBay. Spectacular performance that you can never mistake for digital content.

I have just gone through looking for high compliance carts for a 4g Tone arm.  Gone with ADC XLM mkII to see what they are like.

I do have an Empire 2000E/III and it is a very nice cart on my CJ Walker with Rega RB301.

Thanks for the suggestions and comments.

Yes I've been told the tonearm is quite light and that Id need a high compliance MM cart with some weight.

I'm not sure about my budget? I guess once I know the approx. value of a good compatible cartridge for the TT and tonearm, I can put forward a reasonable offer to the seller. Not sure what that would be? Suggestions??

Extra weight would bring out the best from a medium compliance MM cart with this arm.

A suitable high compliance MM cart should be a good match without extra weight.

I agree except for the Supex 900 which ran beautifully on a Grace 707.

This of course defies the rules.

Actually, it doesn't.  :)

The only specs I could find for the Supex SD-900 (on the VE Cart DB) show a compliance of 13 and a weight of 10gm.  This is in the 'green zone' on their Resonance Evaluator - just not as much as a compliance of 20 is.

For the recent Hi Fi News review of the Dual CS 600 turntable, the effective mass of the tonearm was estimated as between 6-7 gms. Ken Kessler sucessfully used the Eat Glo No 5 MC cartridge. He liked the combination.

Just saying.

Is that cart compatible with my RP3 and RB330?

I don't see why not.  Those are not heavy arms by any means.

A shame you're not in Brisbane.

Will be selling my S.A.M. Aldebaran (Fidelity Research FR-14 & 64S tonearms) and Victor TT-71 with Fidelity Research FR-54 tonearm shortly. Will be a local sale only though.

Bought this in Dec last year, it’s almost new , my TT technician set it up as I did want to get it right and didn’t want to get damage because I paid a lot for it, unfortunately the RBA250 of my Thorens doesn’t have VTA alignment so couldn’t get it to work and ended up buying something else.

This model is or used to be the Top MM from the Ortofon 2M series and there’s plenty of reviews on the net.

Bought it from a local seller and have the original invoice, it has two years of warranty.

      Item: Ortofon 520 MM Cartridge
      Location: Melbourne, NE 'Burbs
Price: $210, $180   ...  OK then,  $150 for brand new vintage cartridge (+ postage, if required)
Item Condition: Brand New / Never used
Reason for selling: Surplus to requirements
Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only
Extra Info:  It didn't sell first time around, so try again ...... still at $150

I purchased this cartridge several decades ago. My guess is sometime mid to late 90's.  I had the intent of fitting it to my t’table at the time.  It never happened - I moved away from vinyl for a while, and the cartridge got hidden in amongst other gear.  It has never been out of it's little box or fitted to a headshell, so it is brand new.

So, here it is, direct from the ‘90’s: A pristine Ortofon cartridge in its original packaging.   This is the original version, predating the Mark II.  A stylus to fit this or Mark II costing anywhere up to 180 Euro.

Item: Luxman Turntable PD-441 with Micro MA-505 tonearm and AT-F3II MC cartridge
      Location: Queensland
      Price: 1499
      Item Condition:Used
Reason for selling: Not using anymore
Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal, COD Only
Extra Info: Am selling my Luxman PD-441 turntable, it is not been used anymore, comes complete with Micro Seiki tonearm MA-505 and audiotechnica MC cart AT-F3II. Cart is used but still in very good condition. Also have a extra tonearm base that fit vintage SME tonearms included in the sale. Complete package and ready to be used.

Condition is ok, there is a small crack on the cover as you see on the pics. Writings on the turntable have come off partially. The turntable was serviced power supply electrolytic replaced and adjusted. Functionality is 100%. The light on the power switch does not work however that does not affect the functionality. Blue light for 33 and orange for 45 work very well. A excellent turntable, featuring the load free spindle motor.

I will ship anywhere in Australia but prefer pick up. Shipping costs will be covered from buyer and happy to accomodate any requests.

      Thank you
