NEW POWER SUPPLIES

Recommended Posts

Just some info on two new power supplies that will be available shortly.

Finally I will have a 5v 4A  linear PSU.

It has the usual Kraftwerk spec of Large Nichicon Gold Tune main filter capacitors, thermal & short circuit protection.

Also there will be a 5v USB A socket out & maybe a USB A pass through as well.

This would be useful for say powering a external USB music server drive.

The drive would be powered by the low noise PSU & then the pass trough socket would carry just the data as normal to the server.

It will also have the usual XLR power out socket.

Price around $500

A brand new dual output PSU with full galvanic isolation between outputs.

It will be powered by a external Aus Tortech dual output toriodal transformer.

Usual Kraftwerk spec of Large Nichicon Gold Tune main filter capacitors, thermal & short circuit protection.

Outputs adjustable in the 9v to 15v range - yet to be decided.

Price around $550

Availability

Two to three weeks - just need to order the PCB's & cad new panels.

Interested in the pros and cons of a single vs dual output.  Dual is more cost effective, but what are the trade offs?  Also, can it have 2 different voltages?

Hi Snoopy

There are no trade offs as it is actually two independent separate PSU circuits but just sharing the same case.

Yes voltages can be set individually for each output.

Hi Clay, Interested in the dual output PSU design. Just a question regarding the corresponding output current for the voltage range. Any chance the 12V current output will be 4.5A or greater? Thanks

Hi Arv - unfortunately each output will be limited to 2 A

Hey Clay, just saw you here and thought I'd say hello. Very interesting conversations around PSU and quality - Cheers Robert

Thanks Robert.

Dual output PCB's should arrive this week so I will post some pictures when I have a board assembled.

Highlights are  large on board chokes & dual super low noise IXYS 22 A bridge rectifiers

Hi Clay,

I saw you made a 3 (or was it 4) port version at one stage. Do you still make these and is there pricing? Tradeoffs?

Cheers

mike

Hi Mike,

unfortunately no - now discontinued.

Thanks Clay. I think I’ll go for a dual in that case.

Good call - the new dual will be a far superior unit to the earlier multiple output model too.

It is two completely seperate PSU's but just sharing a common case.
