How does one describe the offer of a pair as a ‘bargain’?

By special arrangement, LWA have just received the last new pair of Focal Grand Utopia EM speakers (in white). This discontinued model is the predecessor to the current EVO model, which sell for a cool $450,000 a pair. When still in production, the Grand Utopia EM sold for $295,000 a pair with much of the increased price coming from the falling Australian dollar and rising costs coming out of the factory in France.

What is the difference between the new and old you may ask?

The EVO range has added a new suspension system to the mid-range driver and the structure of the speakers have been strengthened. Together, with minor improvements to the crossover the new models sound better– marginally.

Is the difference worth $281,000 – we don’t think so.

Yes, it is a lot of money to pay for a pair of speakers, but this is a lot of speaker and surprisingly, represents an outstanding bargain.

The pair are available for sale on our website: click here view the product page for the Focal Grand Utopia’s

OK guys, I am up for a bit of humor (especially at times like this), but this is a commercial sponsors ad, and could be considered white-anting, or at least a little disrespectful. Thread cleaned.

Apologies for any previous comments but what would you need to drive these awesome speakers? What kind of pre-amp and amp/s would be considered worthy of making these fantastic creatures come to life?

Cheers

Replying to Chris. We have sold a number of these speakers over the years, all with different amplification, and all have worked well. One was an a pair of Krell KAS mono-block power amps, old but fabulous. Another is running them with Musical Fidelity TriVista KW1000 power amps and matching pre. Again an old combo, but equally as impressive. One recent install was with a Naim Statement pre/power amplifier.

In the showroom we are running them with Halcro Eclipse mono blocks with a Krell Illusion pre. We also use the Krell Solo 575 mono power amps as well. Regards, Len
