Nakamichi Cassette Deck 700 Mk2 tune up

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Hello All,

Hope you’re all surviving the new Covid life.

Have a Nakamichi 700 Mk2 cassette deck with remote and manual which I have had since new and it needs a service.
wanting to get it into tip top shape before finding it a new home.
Any recommendations in the Sydney area?

Many thanks.

Trevor

Good luck finding someone. I know that Len Wallis Audio stopped servicing Naks quite a while ago, due to the lack of available parts and skilled techs.

Trevor at Rage Audio does have experience with old Naks so probably worth giving him a phone call.  Alternatively If you can find a service manual and can use a soldering iron you might be able to do it yourself. I have an old 700ZXL that also needs new drive belts and lamps etc, plus any Nak of that era is in need of capacitor replacements, which includes many film caps as well as electro's and often non-standard low tolerance values. When time permits I'll strip it down on the work bench and prepare myself for a long stint with a double shot espresso.

Hi Trevor please let me know how you go if you don't mind, I have a nakamichi that I want to service too and have been looking for someone in Australia but seems really hard to find expert nakamichi techs these days who are experienced and patient enough to work on these fine machines.

Cheers,

Paul
