EZYHD
Not purchased a TV in about 5 years, looking at the Samsung 75" RU7100 4K UHD Smart LED TV under $1500, seeking advise from users or other TV's of this size to consider, mainly watch FTA, Youtube, Netflix, Apple TV and use airplay from IPhone/iPad. LogicprObe
Yeah, well...........the last one I bought was a 65" five years ago from Kogan.............................it is just starting to have a problem but may well last another year or two or fail tomorrow. I can get the same size in 4k for the same money now..........and probably will when it completely gives up the ghost! Paid not much under a grand so that price for 75" seems OK to me. EZYHD
The TCL 75" P8M 4K UDH LEDTV model gets excellent reviews both here and the USA, BUY NOW
Whites
If you watch a fair bit of sport make sure you check that the model is suitable for motion, I would check reviews. One of my friends recently bought a cheap 75" tv and has commented on the sport having a slight blur when watching fast sports. I think he regrets the purchase and wishes he bought a 65" but a better model.
EZYHD
Not a lot of sport, car racing only. From what I see here the TCL has it under control. TCL have been around for about 40 years and their TVs are highly regarded in the USA. Edited April 5, 2020 by EZYHD

Bear in mind that the models that TCL sell in the US are differently spec'd to the Australian models (i.e. better tech and features). You can't buy the P8M in the US - they have the Q82. Any comparisons between the two models (as has been the case over previous year's releases) are irrelevant.

She has a lot of trouble navigating around the menu system (which isn't intuitive) to access basic features like FTA TV, Netflix and YouTube. It comes with two remote controls but neither has a button marked TV. Go figure that out! A TV which makes watching FTA TV anything but easy. Has anyone figured out on the P8M series how to erase a TV program that has been recorded from a USB drive connected to the TV? Cheers, Alan R. pwstereo
Any of the Samsung or LG mid to high range models should be good. I have a smaller TCL and it too is a pig of a thing to navigate and operate. I've liked the three Samsungs I've had over the years and I also like my current LG OLED.

Agree completely - TCL televisions produced for the Australian market part of the company's south east Asian operation. Generally speaking TCL TVs sold here utilise low spec, narrow colour density, edge lit technology, and are nothing like the panels marketed in the USA, such as the 6 series which utilise full array local dimming, wide colour gamit and outstanding peak brightness. Chalk and cheese unfortunately - I just wish that TCL would sell these premium (but budget priced) models in Australia, but am not holding my breath.

pc10
Probably two things at play here. Firstly (as mentioned above) our geography makes its more expedient for companies like TCL and Hisense to group us in with the SE Asian market. Second - market share. To be fair to TCL, they are able to develop and market high end panels for the US market simply due to the size of that sector. Furthermore, in the USA, these units can be sold at a budget price, as the raw numbers make it economically feasible, given the size of the market. Hisense have talked about their new mini LED technology coming to Australia this year - lets wait and see but my sense is that this does eventuate, pricing will be in the premium bracket. Given that companies like Samsung and Sony are vacating the premium 4K market in an attempt to push consumers into purchasing 8K, an opportunity exists, for TCL and Hisense to exercise a little creativity and offer their high end US models such as the TCL 6 series and the Hisense H9F, at a budget price in Australia? To conclude, if I was in the market for a 75" LCD panel in Australia with budget limitations, I would stick with Samsung at either the RU 7100 or the RU 8000 which are being discounted at the moment pending the 2020 models. At least with lower end Samsung models, you get a VA panel with decent contrast and black levels. Remember, rule of thumb - avoid IPS panels (LG and lower end Sony) unless wide viewing angles are an issue.

For any product, you’ll see an uptake of the cheapest, most Australian consumers are not willing to pay premium for top of the line full feature models. Not many will keep top of the line in stock, unless there’s a special buy where there’s a price advantage..... and that’s usually on run out models, this cycles every 6-9mths for panels as manufacturers battle to win your cash. What they can’t sell you often see heavily discounted, so when you see these discounts, it usually means there is new range coming out, sometimes not necessary better,
Eugene.cho
Like many other products, Australian market is just too small. I used to work in Advertising industry, big brands don't usually make much effort making localized commercials, they rather throw money to make it in the states which is much more cost effective. Dell, Samsung, and LG don't even bother to have local offices just outsource support to third parties.

Australia is only less than 2% of any industry and a fraction of some... when I jump up and down on an issue on new products, the tech support HQ in Japan doesn’t even give a rats and won’t deal with it, it’s usually answered as it’s only Australia, so it must be a local condition, however when that same issue gets reported OS such as EU or the US and Canada, they get off there bottom and react for more info..... stuckinhere
If you go for the TCL make sure you get the newer P8MR model (has a higher refresh rate). Have a 75P8MR and am very happy.
pc10
If you can wait a while, the Hisense 2020 range looks really promising. The Q8 models feature a stack of high end features such as Quantum dot filter, wide colour gamut, high peak brightness and most importantly, full array local dimming (FALD) which puts these panels well above anything TCL can offer in Australia. The 75" version of the Hisense Q8 is listed at $3496 at JBs but should come down to below $3K later in the price cycle.
TP1
Before buying Hisense or TCL, I suggest you check the the degree of screen reflections that you might expect to get with the particular TV and the room. I have seen TVs from each make that appeared to be a lot more reflective of ambient light than the more expensive brands. I can't say if it would apply to all TVs in the range ( I haven't seen them all) but it would be a good thing to check just in case.
EZYHD
Finished up buying a Samsung 75" QLED - Q70T yesterday, local sellers like HN, JB plus Appliances Online* all waiting on more stock of this model, best price $2860 was latter* by a whopping $635 under the list price of $3495 (was 4k), including delivery and $250 cash card, so price was $2610 (after card credit). Went to GG who happened to have 2 in stock and after some deliberation price matched, being delivered this morning. Yesterday sold my 4 year old 65" Panny for $500.
