Any love for the Nagra 4.2?

Recommended Posts

The first time I recorded to a 4.2 was an epiphany.  Couldn't believe the sound quality.  I'd wasted a lot of time recording to computers and was never satisfied with the results.  Maybe it comes down to the incredible mic preamp in the Nagra, but I'd never heard acoustic instruments sound as good with digital mediums.  Perhaps its because tape allows a higher sound level without distortion.  Perhaps its tape saturation.

I'd love to know of the experiences of others.  Has anyone found that recording acoustic music on tape and in particular, on the Nagra 4.2 to be a game changer?
