I think we've seen this enough times now to know 'B-stock' is actually their way of getting around selling items cheaper (due to distributor agreements, or upsetting other dealers etc) when in fact, i

It's not a lot, none of the Focals have a lot.   If you want that deep subbass, for that price, look at a Fostex TH6XX Ebony. Or a used CA Cascade (smaller cups though).   It's dyn

While browsing through their sale section I also noticed drops on a bunch of their sale, b-stock or demo items. Too many to list here as there's 20+ pages and not all items have had price drops. Some that stood out were new Astell & Kern SR15 DAP for $599 ($999 RRP but seem to be $850 on sale at Minidisc) and B-stock SE 100 DAP for $999 (RRP $2499).

There isn't any history on what the prices used to be before the drop, but I recall the SR15 being $850 and the SE100 being $1400ish. Have been keeping an eye on them.

I am a weak man and wasn't able to resist the call of the SE100, but the SR15 is reviewed as a price/performance bargain at retail, let alone almost half that.

Hi All,

With all of the manufacturing reductions, the Australian dollar nosediving by about 20% of its value over the past fortnight, new shipments are going to increase and current stock may be the best buys.

This is good thinking.

Have already seen price increases in some FiiO and Campfire Audio / ALO gear.

How good is se100 dap compare to a bigger amplifier like Hugo or woo audio?

I have not listened to any of them listed yet, but depends on purpose. Bit of an apples to oranges comparison. A Hugo is very well regarded, but is stretching the definition of portable. Also requires something to deliver source material to it.

Woo audio has some desktop and portable amps/DACs which also get good reviews.

The advantage of the DAP would be the portability and all-in-one setup. Just plug in headphones and you're done. It would however likely have less power to drive larger or more demanding headphones.

I sprung for the SE100 because it's known to have a very low noise floor, and I hate hearing hiss on my Andromedas. I also don't like the idea of using my phone as a portable source, as it kills battery I need for repeatedly looking at the same crap over and over on Reddit.

Some great buys on there.

Auralic aries and ultrasone are exceptional value

The Aries are refurbished and the one I purchased, as well as others, are still registered to the old owners so are basically locked.
Addicted to Audio are aware of this and dint give a hoot.

I have been trying to get them to organise a courier to pick mine up since Monday.

Multiple emails and ph calls and no action.

May have no option but to go to Fair Trading. Truly dreadful so buyer beware.

Auralic support is helpful and pretty responsive. I had a similar issue and it was unlocked by Auralic within 24 hours.

I would be giving support a go, it's a fantastic unit

I bought 3 Aries Mini's. I'm currently running 2 and they sound fantastic. Auralic recently updated the firmware to 6.3 on the Aries and Mini's bringing a raft of improvements, one being sound quality.

I’m sure it is hence why I purchased it. But what’s happened has left a sour taste.

Not sure if it’s always been there, but if I look at the Aries units on the A2A site it says very clearly

REFURBISHED UNIT, 1 YEAR WARRANTY, SLIGHT BLEMISHES, ONLY ONLINE]

What’s your point though?

I thought you meant that they hadn't made it clear that the unit was refurbished.

If that's not what you were saying then perhaps I misunderstood you - apologies.

No probs. I did state in my post that I knew it was refurbished and I have no issue with that and the price reflected that too.

Being unusable due to being locked and then being ignored is my issue

Understood.

Agree that selling an unusable unit is poor form

With people loosing jobs there will be less people buying luxury items. Maybe I am wrong but I think that it would be terrible for business to raise prices. In fact lowering prices may be a good idea.

Maybe the people who spend a large amount of money on audio equipment are not going to care about price raises?

THE LCD2C jumped from $999 to $1399  .. $400 is a huge jump for a item like this.
I know the AUD has dropped, but has it really dropped 40%?

Sonoma Model One can be picked up for $2700ish. Usually $7500. From what I've read it's an endgame head-fi setup. If I had the money, I'd buy it just to find out.
