Purchased on SNA from psychometrics in March 2019 as part trade on another product I was selling. with original ad here: https://www.stereo.net.au/forums/topic/297228-sold-fsantipodes-dx-music-server/?tab=comments#comment-4424382

Has operated flawlessly since purchase using NAIM DAC V1 (separately for sale). Can operate via Vortex Box/Squeezer but I found the iPeng app was better.  Connects to an external DAC via USB. Antipodes in NZ suggested using latest operating system but former owner said he had a later unit using this and preferred the original (see SNA ad) so I kept it.

A few very light scratches/scuff marks on top of the box that I have tried to show in photo. Selling as I don’t listen to a streamer enough or  via headphones much and I have several other sources for vinyl and digital in the main system.

I know. I have a very early DS Reference.  Great products and I’m sure this would be a lot better than mine.

Item Condition: 7/10 - One of the better condition units. Shipping Options: Pickup available and you can audition.,Shipping is included in price. Suburb or Town: Vaucluse, 2030 State: New South Wales Payment Method: Paypal, Cash Reason for selling: Funding Poweramp Further information:
For Sale is a rare STAX Earspeaker from 1982 in pristine condition.
They are an amazing headphone for jazz or blues recordings, they have a big stage with the clarity and speed vintage STAX are known for.

There were only 800 of these ever made and not a whole lot survived this long in pristine condition.
You may find listings of people claiming they're selling an SR5G but the SR5G is black and has the newer flat cable. It was a redesign of the original white SR5 with round cable.
They can work well with pop music but are bass shy and would benefit from EQ. Once EQ'ed they can give you a crazy amount of slam, if that's what you're looking for.
It comes with a SRD7 adapter for earspeaker, which was modified by Geoff from Aurealis. This adapter allows you to connect the headphones to a power amplifier.

      MODS
This SRD7 has had the left STAX out disconnected as this Y split slightly degraded fidelity and there's way to listen to two headphones simultaneously.
The cabling to the 6 pin STAX out was changed out by Aurealis Audio to Neotech UPOCC copper in teflon insulation.
This is the lowest capacitance wire available on the market. Capacitance measurably significantly affects STAX due to the high voltage (230V Bias).
Originally the SRD7 had a bare wire bypass and the speaker wires were fixed at 1M. This is simply not usable and many people have purchased speaker cable extensions.
Instead of going that route, the bypass was replaced with binding posts and rewired with 12 gauge duelund.
This allows you to use your own speaker cables of any length.
Lastly, the original paint of the unit was removed, and it was repainted with a vintage style of paint.

      NOTE
These headphones need to be powered by a power-amplifier/receiver.
The cable is fixed at 2.5M. This is because of the design electrostatic headphones. The newer Stax with detachable cables sound worse due to the added capacitance.
They do not need more than 15WPC into 8 ohm but will shine with 50WPC.
They require a step down transformer to 100W (Japanese Voltage) but only consume 0.1W. I can include a 100W one for $10.
