Guest DrSK
Insured value is $1000. I've a blown integrated amp used to run the rears of my 4.0 setup which very occasionally get used for music where the smaller rears drop some recordings where there is too much boosted base. Although my upstairs system is running the same speakers as the rears so could survive without an integrated. The front is powered by a Metaxas (hopefully getting repaired from same plumbing incident) power amp driven by Konverter DAC/Pre. The integrated is fed off an Oppo 205 analogue out for the rear which can also drive a power amp directly. I'm not a fan of Yamaha's dynamics, they sound dead. But like a neutral sound. I'm also not interested in paying money for onboard DACs etc in the build cost, money can be better spent in the design. Not sure where to start. Shops just say Yamaha or Mirantz, but there must be better options. The blown item was a vintage Inkel, that smashed current Yamaha at this price point. Inkel can be very hit and miss and reliability is getting questionable. Edited March 17, 2020 by DrSK
Mungbean66
Does it have to be new? Plenty of awesome amps on SNA at around $1k. If new is required by the insurance company maybe auditioning would be your best bet. Edited March 17, 2020 by Mungbean66
SMARTPLAY
I’ve got a Yamaha as1100 and it’s fantastic. Obviously a bit over your $1000 insurance but if you can add your own $ on top of insurance, it’s worth it.
