Nice!

So the disc needs to be open for the change? Also, why the note on quick start? Angel you turn it off?

I blush.  Thank you for the link.

Is the Laser brand adequate?

The last cheapie DVD player I bought, failed 12 months and 1 week after purchase. :(

i know some who have used their "laser" for years.... yes its a cheapie.. its pretty carp.... and yes its go no build to speak off but does the job..... as a 2nd player region free jobbie.... and thats how most use it as a 2nd player.

Posted (edited)

+1 for 220-electronics.

I got Sony S790 w/region free some 5 years ago. I was tossing up between OPPO 103/105 and the S790 and decided for Sony. Less than half the cost of Oppo 103 and at the time had more streaming options than the Oppos (which is a bit of a moot point as they're all much the same). S790 is not as heftily built as Oppo. Love the sound and picture. Even the upscalling to 4K (at 24fps) looks great for the movies, but I mostly keep it at 1080p/24fps.

Region free works by opening the disk tray, pressing one of the yellow, red or blue button that corresponds to the region you want to use......close the tray and done.

edit: just to add - super impressed with the analogue audio out (RCAs). It edges out the the already excellent HDMI audio. I've never heard any OPPO player, but it wouldn't surprise me if S790 was on par

Are there any 4K players that can play blu-rays from all regions?  I do have a region free BR player, but would love to just have the one device that plays UHD and my Region A locked blus.

I just ordered a Sony 1100ES, you get it off Amazon (the seller also sells from their own site) Bombay Electronics...

They also sell the X800MK I or II

Will do a review in due course :)

      Item:  Cary 303/200 HDCD/CD Player 230vac
      Location: Gosford Nsw
      Price:  $1175.00
      Item Condition: Good
      Reason for selling: Retiring audiophile
Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal plus fees COD Only
      Extra Info:

This player has been highly modified by our own George Stantcheff  with the addition of triple stacked AD844 as I/V, as per the thread here on DIY Audio - http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/digital-line-level/227677-using-ad844-20.html

"Couple of days ago we compared my Cary 303/200 using just the I/V of the AD844, up against the Thorsten Losetch designed AMR CD77 (TDA1541 double crown) that uses Thorsten's special designed I/V stage which I believe is tube based, output impedance <100ohms, so a good match with the Lightspeed as is the Cary. I was expecting the AMR to be better, just by it's reputation and the designer behind it.
3 of us within 20sec thought the Cary was a clear winner, top to bottom, front to back and side to side, and it remained that way for the rest of the session, the owner of the AMR was mute and stone faced and said nothing for the 1.5hrs of A/Bing, and probably saddened by the result, the listening session which went for 4hrs, the last 2.5hrs was the Cary only.
The system was my Lightspeed Attenuator feeding 2 x Halcro DM-78 monoblocks (input impedance 100kohms) pushing a pair of Wilson Watt puppy 8's
This proved what I've been hearing that this AD844 as an I/V is something very, very special when used as I've done with no feedback"

This player is as close to "State of the Art" (if there's any such thing) as I've heard under $20k.  Due to the mods, the balanced connectors no longer operate.

Only being sold due to the owner of the last several years retiring from the hobby.

Complete with orig remote & manual. Will pack & ship worldwide at buyers cost.

      Hi all,

I'm looking for a good, affordable option for a CD player for my home stereo (probably up to $100 max at this point). I would love something that would hold a few CD's (to keep my wife happy, so she has minimal interaction with everything!)
However a single disc player would be fine too.

Any suggestions on where to go, what to look for? Or anything for sale here?

      Thanks in advance.
