Hologram Vinyl - a new trend?

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

Wow this is so pretty -

would look pretty amazing on a turntable just for the effect.

Wonder if this is going to be the new fad?

I wonder how it "really sounds" though .......

would be cool to have one for the novelty factor though¬†ūüėČ

It's been around since Split Enz - True Colours

Check out the new Dope Lemon album on hologram vinyl.  Surprisingly sounds pretty good although the noise floor is high.

Yes Split Enz did that, and the guy who is being interviewed explains that they did it - but his is a little different as he explains and shows other variations.

Looks cool.  But do you think the noise floor is due to the hologram process, or is the same noise floor on black vinyl.

There is no black vinyl persay.  I do have the black hologram vinyl, not the yellow.    Yellow would not be quieter.

The guy in the video on the link I supplied explains the process he has worked out how to do it - so the hologram (light) and the music grooves are different - independent of each other, was very interesting and I loved the examples he shows in the video too. I am not into gimmicks and would choose to have Black over any colour or clear - but to have that first one he shows just spinning on the table at a party would be a conversation starter.............it is stunning.

Hi All,

Brian Eno has an LP that requires an Apple app to produce holograms

Are we all seeing a cone at the bottom of an off centre spinning shaft (within a sphere)?

For me it begins as a descending spiral and then changes to what you describe, trippy!

I also see different cone sizes at different times, a small one and a large one with a inverted one in it's center, depending on what I'm not sure, so I see 3 variations in it at different times.

Well  @April Snow if you like Holograms and the idea of a record being a talking point, you really need to get a copy of Jack Whites, 2014, Lazaretto LP.

 Evidently the title means

"a hospital for those affected with contagious diseases, especially leprosy".
"a building or a ship set apart for quarantine purposes".
So quite fitting at the present time.

On top of the "Dancing Angel Hologram" it offers
2 vinyl-only hidden tracks hidden beneath the center labels
- 1 hidden track plays at 78 RPM, one plays at 45 RPM, making this a 3-speed record
- Side A plays from the outside in
- Dual-groove technology: plays an electric or acoustic intro for ‚ÄúJust One Drink‚ÄĚ depending on where needle is dropped. The grooves meet for the body of the song.
- Matte finish on Side B, giving the appearance of an un-played 78 RPM record
- Both sides end with locked grooves
- Vinyl pressed in seldom-used flat-edged format
- Dead wax area on Side A contains a hand-etched hologram by Tristan Duke of Infinity Light Science, the first of its kind on a vinyl record

Plus the music is good.
