Cheers Bizzibee..... is there a list somewhere of Yamaha  A vs V model numbers that are identical internally?

OK I will give this a go. Please note that Yamaha US does not offer the V Series equivalents of the top three corresponding Aventage models. I don't know the reason for this.

Also it is important to note that it is only the top three Aventage models (RX-A30xx, RX-A20xx & RX-A10xx), that have corresponding models (RX-V30xx, RX-V20xx & RX-V10xx) in the V Series with same internals. So the Aventage RX-A8xx & RX-A7xx don't have any corresponding models in the V Series with same internals.

Anyway, It is fairly straight forward.

If you browse to:

https://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio_visual/av_receivers_amps/index.html

You will see the AVENTAGE Series, the '85 Series and the '83 Series. I've added the link below for the '81 Series as Yamaha has removed it.

If you click on the Aventage Series link:

https://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio_visual/av_receivers_amps/aventage/index.html

You will see the AVENTAGE Series 9, Series 8, & Series 7.

OK here we go!

2018 AVENTAGE Series 9 = '85 Series

RX-A3080 = RX-V3085 (Note: the RX-V3085 is not shown on the Australian Yamaha site. I don't know the reason)

RX-A2080 = RX-V2085

RX-A1080 = RX-V1085

Note: 2018 Yamaha CX-A5200 AVENTAGE 11.2-Ch AV Preamplifier is based on AVENTAGE RX-A3080

Ref:

https://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio_visual/av_receivers_amps/aventage/index.html

https://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio_visual/av_receivers_amps/85/index.html

You can use this comparison tool to confirm:

https://www.zkelectronics.com/compare/yamaha-rx-a3080/australia/yamaha-rx-v3085/australia/

https://www.zkelectronics.com/compare/yamaha-rx-a2080/australia/yamaha-rx-v2085/australia/

https://www.zkelectronics.com/compare/yamaha-rx-a1080/australia/yamaha-rx-v1085/australia/

2017 AVENTAGE Series 8 = '83 Series

RX-A3070 = RX-V3083

RX-A2070 = RX-V2083

RX-A1070 = RX-V1083

Ref:

https://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio_visual/av_receivers_amps/aventage/index.html

https://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio_visual/av_receivers_amps/83/index.html

2016 AVENTAGE Series 7 = '81 Series

RX-A3060 = RX-V3081

RX-A2060 = RX-V2081

RX-A1060 = RX-V1081

Ref:

https://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio_visual/av_receivers_amps/aventage/index.html

https://au.yamaha.com/en/products/audio_visual/av_receivers_amps/81/index.html

So the AVENTAGE RX-A1060 = RX-V1081 (which Hytram has for sale)

Note: 2015 Yamaha CX-A5100 AVENTAGE 11.2-Ch AV Preamplifier is based on AVENTAGE RX-A3050

2013 Yamaha CX-A5000 AVENTAGE 11.2-Ch AV Preamplifier is based on AVENTAGE RX-A3030

I'm not going to go back any further than this, except to say that still further back in the AVENTAGE & V Series, the 2011 AVENTAGE RX-A3010 = RX-V3071 Video Series, which is the unit on eBay that I originally linked to here:

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Yamaha-AV-Receiver-RX-V3071-top-of-the-range-when-purchased/174183951249

Anyway I think you get the idea.

P.S. Estimated delivery cost for the RX-V3071 to Australind's 6233 postcode in WA is $115.25

OK good to know. 👍😀

Another thing to consider, is increasing your budget if possible and perhaps pickup a Refurb Yamaha RX-V1085 from say Excel HiFi (av-comp on eBay) for $999 (using eBay discount code PICK100) with free shipping. See:

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/YAMAHA-RX-V1085-AV-Receiver-Aus-Warranty/124063176407

You could also pickup a Refurb Yamaha RX-V2085 from Excel HiFi (av-comp) for $1449 (using eBay discount code PICK100) with free shipping. See:

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/YAMAHA-RX-V2085-AV-Receiver-Aus-Warranty/124066647443

On there Web site, they have the Refurb Yamaha Aventage RX-A2080 for $1599, again with with free shipping. See:

https://www.excelhifi.com.au/yamaha-rx-a2070-refurbished.html

Some important information:

Warranty

https://www.excelhifi.com.au/warranty.html

What is Refurbished?

https://www.excelhifi.com.au/what-is-refurbished-en.html

Shipping/Freight

https://www.excelhifi.com.au/shipping-freight.html

I personally purchased a Refurb Yamaha RX-A3080 from Excel HiFi last year in March, and have been very happy with it.

https://www.excelhifi.com.au/yamaha-rx-a3080-refurbished.html

You wouldn't have know it was a Refurb except there were no batteries for the remote. The box, packing and unit itself were pristine condition.

I am also keen on a Yamaha, I have seen a RX-V3900, and various RX-V units in that price range.

I meant to ask if this if the Yamaha RX-V3900 you were referring to. It is located in Perth and priced at $500. See:

This would be the Cambridge audio azur 751r v2 you are referring to:

Avoid the 751r, sounds great but reliability is the issue, I had two and they were both crap, one was from the distributor too, issues that can never be resolved.

I’d recommend the CXR200 highly though, they are going cheap and even cheaper second hand, complete new build with built in streammagic module and plenty of grunt!

mine hasn’t skipped a beat since new.

Glad that Hi-Fi Whipped had some good info for you. Always good to get personal firsthand experience.

Saw this Demo on eBay, $2,499.00. See:

But looks like one sold for $1200 or $1274. Not sure which one.

The CXR200 recommendation was wrong, now knowing the OP Is looking at a $500 budget I'd recommend to just get the latest model AVR you can find with the features you want. Yamaha, Denon, Marantz and Pioneer would be my pick, start there and you cannot go wrong.

TBH they are all going to pretty much sound the same. If you get one with 7.1 preouts, in the future you can add a power amp for it to go next level if you ever wanted to.

That is why I posted the links to those CXR200 units on eBay. It was to give OP some context around the pricing which is way about his budget.

Absolutely!

I did say that if courier costs from the east are an issue, OP could find something in WA like that Yamaha RX-V3800. See:

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Yamaha-RX-V3800-Receiver/184169787318

Another option is that Denon AVR-X3100W in Perth WA:

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Denon-AVR-X3100W-7-2-Channel-Integrated-Network-Receiver/133329339847

The OP could get almost any AV Receiver sent to Perth cheaply using Sendle, and then get a local courier to ship from Perth to Australind. It is a valid option.

That RX-V3900 mentioned in the OP's first post that was also in WA is sold now. Regardless it was superseded by the RX-A3000 when Yamaha released the Aventage line of Receivers. The RX-A3000 was superseded by the RX-A3010 which the RX-V3071 I mentioned before shares the same internals.

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Yamaha-AV-Receiver-RX-V3071-top-of-the-range-when-purchased/174183951249

So buying a recent RX-A30xx Series Receiver would be a good match for RX-V3900.

Here is a comparison of the Yamaha Aventage RX-A3010 (RX-V3071) over Denon AVR-X3100W

https://www.zkelectronics.com/compare/yamaha-rx-a3010/australia/denon-avr-x3100w/usa/

That Denon AVR-X3100W may well be a very good option for OP.

Here is a comparison of the Yamaha RX-A1060 (RX-V1081) close match to Hytram's RX-V1081 over Denon AVR-X3100W

https://www.zkelectronics.com/compare/yamaha-rx-a1060/australia/denon-avr-x3100w/usa/

Anyway as the OP has said, further research needed to determine exactly which way they will go.

I manually calculated sending the box dimensions and weight provided by Hytram's for his RX-V1081 using Aust Post which came to $118.50 using the following Size: 55.5 x 51.0 x 28.5cm Weight: 19kg from PORT MELBOURNE VIC 3207 to AUSTRALIND WA 6233

https://auspost.com.au/parcels-mail/calculate-postage-delivery-times/#/option/domestic/3207/6233

I manually calculated sending the box dimensions and weight of my RX-A3080 using Aust Post which came to $128.15 using the following Size: 56 x 54 x 29cm Weight: 21kg from BRISBANE QLD 4001 to AUSTRALIND WA 6233

That is inline with the $115.25 estimate given here when selecting postage cost:

So Aust Post is most likely the cheapest option for OP to use since AUSTRALIND WA 6233 is classified as a remote location. I have sent AV Receivers which I sold in the past using Aust Post (with insurance of course), and haven't had any issues.

Anyway worth considering if OP can't find something locally.
