A box of old reel-to-reel tapes

Recommended Posts

I once owned a ReVox A77 half-track deck, 3 3/4 and 7 1/2 ips: shown below (photo from 1980).  I sold it many years ago.

Of course, now I wish I hadn't!  I have a packing book box full of old reel-to-reel tapes that I cannot play. Most of the tapes are recordings I made myself on 10 inch reels: live performances, family weddings, and I'm not sure what else. I have digitised my old cassette tapes and would now like to move on to doing the same with these reel-to-reel recordings.

Having considered the option of our-sourcing the digitisation, I'm reluctant as I want to enjoy the re-discovery of each recoding. I also plan to take care capturing what meta-data I can, as I go, and including this with the FLAC file. In short, I'd rather take the time to do it myself!

I've been keeping an eye out for a second hand ReVox with a view to purchasing one, digitising the tapes and then on-selling it when I've finished. But they come up infrequently and are quite expensive to buy.

I'm just wondering if any readers of this forum may have suggestions for me?

Best...

I have a B77 half track which does 7 1/2 and 15 ips. I don't have an dedicated ADC, but could record the reels for you using the audio input in my laptop.

Thank you Sean, that's a very kind offer.

I hope I don't seem ungrateful, but I'd like to see what other possibilities emerge. There are literally HOURS of recordings and my preference would be to work through them myself. To ask you, or anyone else, to do so would be a huge ask. May I come back to you if I find my options are indeed severely limited?

Thank you again for your very generous offer.
