This month we welcome back Warwick Freemantle from the Pure Music Group. It was two years ago when Warwick introduced to the club, a new range of Australian designed and made electronics from Open Audio Design. Jon de Sensi, the chief designer and owner of OAD, has developed a new stand-alone Phono Stage for the Australian market. The OAD UP1 Phono Stage is a two-box device with a separate power supply. The main box contains the electronics with two separate boards for each channel.

One of the design criteria for the UP1 was to provide enough gain so that it would suit even the lowest output moving coil cartridges. A general MM 40dB gain or MC 60dB is the first step, then a separate set of dip switches are provided for an additional 20dB of gain, in 5dB increments. Six cartridge impedance loading switches are provided along with three capacitance settings, ensuring that you can match almost any cartridge to your system.

Warwick will be demonstrating the phono stage with a Kuzma Stabi S turntable with a Stogi S arm. This minimalistic turntable features a heavy cross-shaped tubular brass chassis that uses rubber O rings for decoupling purposes, doing away with the conventional suspended sub-chassis. The rest of the system will feature the ATC CDA2 Mk2 CD player/DAC/Preamp. With both CD playback and plenty of inputs - both analogue and digital - the unit can accommodate all your additional sources.

Designed to drive long cable runs when connected to active speakers, the CDA2 Mk2 makes a perfect match to a pair of ATC SCM50 ASL speakers. These 3-way floorstanders house the famous ATC 3" Soft Dome Midrange driver. A 25mm Tweeter takes care of the high frequencies while the 234mm/9" Bass driver incorporates ATC's unique Super Linear Magnet technology. Each driver has its own dedicated and individually matched amplifier manufactured in-house, totalling 350 Watts per speaker.

Looks like we will have another full house for the night, don't be late.

Nick Karayanis, Program Co-Ordinator.

Pure Music Group presents Open Audio Designs

8pm Wednesday 21st February, visitors welcome.

A New Year has started, and it has brought to the Australian Hi Fi scene a new player to the market. Warwick Freemantle from the Pure Music Group will be demonstrating to the club a new range of electronic components from Open Audio Designs. The man behind this new company, Jon DeSensi, will be our guest presenter for the night.

Jon's new products, a pre and power amp, have raised the bar for Australian High End design and manufacturing with world class sonics at affordable pricing. The CP1 pre- features a 4.3" TFT LCD Full Colour display, with capacitive touch. All features of the CP1 are controlled by this touch display which eliminates any front panel mechanical potentiometers and switches. Gold plated Swiss made relays select inputs, followed by a buffer amplifier that presents a benign load to signal sources. With few components in the path as possible, a direct coupled dual mono layout helps to maximise audio purity and virtually eliminate crosstalk.

The UF1 Power Amplifier utilizes the latest in transistor technology to deal with significant distortions. As the load impedance of an amplifier is decreased, large signal non-linearities begin to appear. This distortion is significantly dependent on the quality of the amplifier's output stage power transistors. The UF1's transistors are in a different class, in that the current gain is completely maintained over its full power bandwidth, while also minimising the crossover distortion.

Partnering the electronics will be a new speaker from Gauder Akustik, the Berlina RC-7D Mk II with the Accuton Pure Diamond Tweeters. Argento Cables will look after the signal from each component. With the optional phono card (PP1) installed in the preamp, the source for the night will be the Kuzma Stabi SPS Turntable with Kuzma 4 Point 9" Tonearm. This will be OAD's (OPEN AUDIO DESIGNS) first public showing at an audio event. We may well have a full house.

This month we are very pleased to have Warwick Freemantle from the Pure Music Group, introducing to the club a very special guest from New Zealand.
He has invited Mark Jenkins of 'Antipodes Audio' to present a talk entitled, "Digital, Like You've Never Heard it Before" Topics that will be covered in the talk will be:
      The process of enjoying music
What it means for digital product design
      Demonstration of design impacts
      'Antipodes' server design features
Demonstration of differences in the server range
      Where 'Antipodes Audio' is headed.
As part of the talk, a program of music will be used to demonstrate the different models of Antipodes Music Servers, the entry level -DS unit and the flagship -DX. With the ever-evolving computer hardware, new output technology has dramatically reduced the noise floor and eliminated digital glare and grain from the DS in this, the third generation of this model. The DX uses solid state storage, and special dual linear power supplies, designed to eliminate power supply noise in critical areas. The result is a combination of staggering detail retrieval, without any glare or grain, revealing the finest textural differences between voices and instruments.
We will also learn about streaming music, as well as ripping CDs, as these units are more than just a storage component for High Res music. Insert a CD and it will be ripped to uncompressed FLAC, then your disc's corresponding Metadata and artwork will be retrieved from the internet. Partnering equipment will be a new product from Warwick's stable of international brands.
The 'Playback Designs' Integrated system combines DAC + Preamp + Power Amp in one box.
The class A/B stereo amplifier is capable of producing 130W/channel into 8ohms, and doubles that into 4ohms.
Gauder Akustik loudspeakers, with Argento Cables to complete the system.
      * If members cannot attend the MAC meeting there will be a repeat of the talk at the Pure Music Group Showroom in Moorabbin on Thursday 18th. Please call Warwick on 0409 504 805, to book a place.
It's going to be a very interesting and informative evening; see you on the night.

Pure Music Group will exhibit in Room 1315 at the International HiFi Show, July 1st - 3rd, 2016.   Pure Music Group, a Melbourne based distributor of brands including Antipodes Audio, Argento, Gauder Akustik, Mola Mola, TechDAS and many more, have announced they will be exhibiting the highly anticipated Air Force III Turntable from TechDAS.

TechDAS made worldwide news with the release of their Air Force 1 Turntable just a couple of years ago. At around $100,000, it's not for the faint-hearted. Then came Air Force Two, a scaled down version with loads of the technology of its bigger brother.

The news though that an affordable turntable from the Japanese turntable manufacturer, still retaining much of the qualities of the higher range, but at much more affordable price was welcomed by analog enthusiasts. Air Force III, will be officially unveiled at the 2016 International HiFi Show in Melbourne.

The Air Force III features a precision CNC machined aluminium chassis weighing 18kgs. Manufactured according to TechDAS' tight tolerances Air Force III uses a high mass aluminium platter and an air bearing that lifts the platter to just 30 microns during use. Vinyl records are held down during playback through the use of a vacuum, and automatically decoupled via air injection. Pricing is not yet confirmed, but expected to be around $25,000.

Pure Music Group will also have many other high-end products on display and ready for audition. Their main man, Warwick Freemantle has developed a reputation for having a golden ear when it comes to assembling HiFi systems, and we're sure that this one will be no exception.

Pure Music Group will be located in Room 1315, and you can visit their website at: www.puremusicgroup.com
