Thanks for the tips and links. Mine is the RB330 arm and that looks like the black ring with differnt mounting points is the way to go. My Rondo Blue on occasions can touch the LP so even it needs a little lift.

There was a note with the link which says Rega believes this arm in thier TT is set correctly? Mine came with not enough lift from the arm lifter so Rega has missed the mark here already.

Most Rega carts have a very low profile so the arms may have been set up correctly for them.

Probaly right. Radiance in NSW sell the Acoustic Signature "Y" spaces for RB330 arms. I have left them an email. Also does anyone know the screw driver tip profile for the Rega arm turrent mount. It looks star shapped?

Spent another afternoon on the phones with the auxiliary TT and a number of MM carts. Big suprise was an Audio Technica which came with the TT. The cart has no name or model number on it but sounding great when played. I also rolled in an early Ortofon which came with my original Plana3 back in 1986. I since have a new stylus for it.  Again no model numbers on it. I can remember a name like M20 MKII or something.  Once more a big surprise with just how good it sounded.

Also back to the Stanton 881s and this time it sounded all distorted. Sure enough another glob of fluff which was hard to remove. Once gone the cart sounded great again. But I have to say the base Audio Tachnica and early Ortofon were glorious to listen to. See image below for a few of my MMs. I have others but these have new stylus or are new themselves. There is a Rega mono Cart for my mono recordings and a ceramic there for 78s.

At90 and VMS20?

VMS 20 top left and AT90 bottom left.

Someone knows thier carts. Yes I do remember the names now. I think the VMS20 was a MKII. Could I be right here? Nice sounding for what may have been an inexpensive cart in its day.

Probaly wouldn't have it in my main system but in system two where it lives, when not being part of a headphone setup, it was a delight to listen to.

On another note the last time I had this setup I used my newish DIY Mimic Carbon for the phono preamp amp. Because Carbon is back in my main system I used my DIY retro-833 phono stage. But I thought I could hear some hiss with volume turned  up and on headphones. I thought it may have been the vintage LM833 chips in the preamp.

I couldn't remember hearing any hiss when in my main system with 99db effcient speakers. Blaming the chips I swapped them out for the OPA2134s which I use in all my Mimics. But the LM833s were as quiet as the supposedly higher performance OPA2134s. Then I realised being on phones and I had the volume up higher than normal that I was creating an unreal situation in which normally no noise at all would be heard. Backing the volume off to a listenable level hid any noise and satisfied me that the punchy sounding LM833 chips could hold their own against others. To hear anything at all I had to turn up the wick and strain my ears. Not natural. Very happy with the retro-833 performance.

Wood body Reference. The base reference I think there was a model up from this one also. It's about 15 years old. Possible needs retipping. I don't use it because I'm not sure of tip condition.

9 years ago I heard it a few times. Was always impressed.

I bought this set from Jaycar for around $12. Use the T10 hex head. dabb7bc267faaed29e7039a54db74173.jpg

And this is the Acoustic Signature pack.

My love affair with 80's AR's has continued.

I was very impressed with an EB101 AR TT.

Transparent, and very musically expressive.

But the English EB101 is the cheapest possible AR.

I was very keen to try an "AR The Turntable". ( A real one, ;)  )

Now you can add a very natural sound and body to instruments which sound more like they have

realistic tone, to that list above. I recently set this up over a few days including conversion to Aussie

power 240v. The Koetsu absolutely loves it. I've never heard the Black quite like it :) .

Here is some TT porn ...

@odyssey what were you using before, how does it compare?

You don't want to know. There's no comparison. I was using a Denon DP300F auto TT with stock cartridge and build in phono. :)

I don't need to upgrade my phono stage anymore because I just learned that AVID means 'A Very Interesting Design'. Who would have known. :)
