WTB: 1970’s amplifier

Pac-man

Recommended Posts

Item: 1970’s Integrated silver
Price Range: up to $500
Item Condition: Used
Extra Info:

So I am after my first vintage amp and yes it must be the shiny silvery things with all the knobs, meters optional ?!

I am in Perth so I would prefer local but let me know if you are elsewhere.
I will already know about the SNA classifieds, ebay, gumtree but maybe someone just could not be bothered listing or this might temp someone to part with one.
I know its very cliche however I can worry about function over form another time. And hey is there really a bad sounding 70’s amp right?

Phew!

I thought you were going to say 'Black' amps only, 'silver" only lets me off the hook and a heap of other  hoarders of Sansui amps from the 70's. Yes there are some silver face one's(Sansui) but...nobody really wants to admit they have one. It's gotta be black.

Pioneer and Yamaha are your first port of call if you want a quick release from your search for 'Silver only'. They are like bums or bottoms if you prefer: Everyone has one.

Technics, TEAC, Onkyo, Marantz,Sony, Toshiba and there's more.

Grab one of these lovelies if you can:

I still think these are the bee's knee's>>

and within your budget.

Another thing is that you'll never lose money on your purchase...these things don't go down, they go stable, they go flat, they go crazy eyed bonkers in price but ...never down in my experience.

Stunning SILVER KNOBS!image.png.b9946db47f31356e456822a0292f120d.png

An AU-5900...get one of these if you can @Ugly knows all about this model.

It's near your budget.

Good luck!

Yes they do.

A stack of em always fun, like a bunch of puppies running around.

I actually couldn't fit the Au-6900 in the photo which was a bit sad.

There is a Marantz 1090 on ebay in your price range that looks as though it might suit.

I was totally off the Marantz as I heard that the lower models were not great around this vintage? I am eyeing off a kenwood at that price point anyway.

Well maybe the PM400 etc not the 1070 and 1090 series? And of course it was the internets not a person in particular.

Great amp but the guys simply dreaming if he thinks it'll sell for $3600! No top /back/side pics...it's shouting at you: STAY WELL AWAY...look elsewhere!

Agreed... and he has also had a number of issues with that amp over a period of time and I'm not confident in his ability to have fixed them himself e.g. https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/sansui-au-20000.892339/

I'd tread very, VERY carefully!

Wow it is ferocious in here.
I got a Kenwood Ka-5500 in pretty good nick and had some work done to it.
Shiny silvery knobs and meters!

Very nice, well done  newbie.

Silver, ancient, great old mid-fi brand.

Enjoy it(I'm sure you will) and now you need to be plotting your course for the next conquest in your  journey.

**Oh! Sorry. You didn't realise that it doesn't finish here at the Kenwood purchase?

*** You really should you know?

haha.

Well that is my 2nd two channel amp plus my decent AV amp, I am sure I don't need more. Maybe a set of vintage bookshelves but thats it.

And a better Dac but thats it.
For sure

Most probably.

And, and, oh and.........

Familiar story, I have managed to stop with 2 80s integrated amps, Denon PMA 250-II and a Musical Fidelity A1.

Oops forgot the NAD 3020 that my son has borrowed (permanently).

To be fair I still have the bedroom, man room and the garage to go. What if I need to listen to music in there? ?

Also a set of speaker cables would be nice.
