Integrated amp recommendations $3000-$4000

Recommended Posts

It depends of many things including your personal taste, speakers. Do you need a DAC or/and streamer built in? What's your source?

Few of the popular ones are: Hegel, Moon, Luxman, Rega, Musical Fidelity, Exposure, Parasound, Naim, Primaluna, Primare, Plinius, NAD, Pechtree Nova, Roksan, Creek, Vincent ...

This is what you want. A truly one box solution and superb performance in every way. Can be had for about 10% off this listed price.

I would love one myself but...............

Ok cool. Looks nice ? I have seen them online but never saw them as an amp I just thought it was a streamer and dac. Is the 40watt enough to run say a medium size floor standing speaker eg: Dynaudio Contour 30’s?

I haven't heard one with the Contour 30's but it really does drive a wide variety of speakers far better than the specs would suggest.  It is so damn good I want one even though I don't need one. Also, it looks and feels superb and ease of use, plus WAF is off the chart.

Hegel and Simaudio are well known to work synergistically with Dynaudio, they are good places to start. I would want an amp that doubles its wattage into a 4 ohm load or thereabouts, indicating good current.

Class A Audio have most of the brands referred to except Naim and Hegel. The Simaudio 340 or Hegel 190 would be the minimum IME to do justice to the contours.

A second hand Gryphon would be excellent if you can find an older Callisto 200 or similar.

I will have to try find someone who has Hegel and dynaudio in the same shop.

You can try to borrow Hegel (demo) for a few hours. It's worth it even if you have to pay some fee.

NAD C388 with a BluSound MDC module - with that you get an great DAC, Digital amp with 150w and the BluOS module built in

That does look good and at a good price will have to have an audition

Only describes power output into 8ohms as being 40W. The dynaudio contour 30s are 4ohm. I suspect this won't be able to adequately drive those speakers, as nice a unit as it is.

This would be my recommendation $2890:

Enough power and built in DAC.

The Moon Neo Ace is quite punchy despite rated at only 50w per channel. A true all in 1 unit able to run Roon, MQA, MM phono, internet radio etc etc.

I also highly rated the Naim in a home demo at my place but felt it was a tiny bit shouty in comparison to the Moon. Wasn't sure if I might tire of it over time despite being highly impressive on demo.

Yamaha AS2100 gets good reviews.

You can also run a power amp direct to some kind of DAC preamp streamer thing. Say custom built Hypex NC500 mono blocks 400w (see a Hypex threads) into the DAC pre, which would give you much higher quality power amp sound than many integrateds and drive a much bigger range of difficult load speakers.

A used $10k rrp intergrated or separate pre power can be easily found with much higher sound quality result.
