sleach
Hello, looking for some expert advice. I am using an RME ADI2 DAC which I love. I happen to have on hand a Qualia physic psu which puts out 12v 6.6a. The RME says it has a "universal DC input socket accepting 9.5v to 15v". It comes with a 12v 2a wall wart. Leaving aside the question of whether this is worth doing or not, will I damage my ADI 2 by plugging in a 12v 6.6a PSU?
bob_m_54
Providing the plug has the same polarity, no you won't do any damage. The difference between the 12V @ 2A supply, and the 12V @ 6.6A supply is that the latter can handle a bigger load. Your DAC will only draw the current it needs. 1

To add to that, check whether PSU and DAC are both centre positive or negative. Mixing this can do damage. Sometimes, using a higher current supply can lower the operating temperature which is usually good for life of electronics.
bob_m_54
Which is why I mentioned "Providing the plug has the same polarity"

Snoopy8
Please read this https://www.groovypost.com/howto/choose-right-power-adapter-charger-phone-laptop/amp/ If there is not enough info on your charger or in document, then you should be using a multi metre to measure to be sure. 1
