Looking for a new CD player.

Recommended Posts

I have an aging Cal Labs CL-15, SQ is very good but it has an intermittant play problem where it will continue counting but no output.

So time to look for something to replace it, what outlay am I looking at to be in the same league? any suggestions would be welcome.

open to new or used.

I had my eye on the Vincent advertised, but they are not posting at the moment.

I'd get the CL fixed and refurbished, maybe there is a mod or two to take it a bit further..

Intermittant faults are a pain to find, could work out expensive. Plus I'd need to find a repairer in Adelaide, any recommendations.

The Cal will be hard to beat.  Have you tried cleaning the laser?  Getting it serviced is a good plan.

A replacement needs a similar Burr Brown DAC and good error correction which narrows choices down:

Is that both chanlles?

Could be dry solder join where powering a chip or outputting, maybe the RCA's if they are PCB types (where they connect to the board), maybe the op amps? or another chip apart from the DACs.

Meh, run out of ideas.
