Projector mounting pole

Recommended Posts

Hi,

i am setting up my home theatre and about to buy a ceiling mount for the projector.  The centre of the screen will be approximately 110cm below the ceiling.  Is it better to install a pole for the mount to position the projector as close practically possible as the centre of the screen buy using say 80cm long pole?  Or just mounting it to the ceiling ok?  Any improvements in picture quality etc by using a pole?

TIA!

It will be one of JVC’s 4K projector. N7 probably.  Screen top to ceiling is 35cm and the floor to ceiling is 270cm.  Thinking of 130 or 135inch screen.  Thank you.

You should have enough lens shift to not worry about a pole. The light beam comes out straight at the top and angled at the bottom so not like an even arrow of light. A 135 inch screen for example of 1620 high, so half of that would be 810 so the top of the screen would be 1110 minus 810 which is 300mm below the ceiling. The peerless mount for example is 80mm. projectors depth is about 200mm so lens is 100mm down, so you have 180mm so you'd need only 120mm of lens shift which is fine as you have 80% of the image height available in lens shift so no need for pole unless you want it for airflow I'd go with 9 or 12 inch pole only.

just be carefull regarding screen height from floor. dont know if you are doing 2 rows or a single row of seating or the distances from screen.

i would "wall test" first seating in the different seats, although 700mm from floor is what you are looking at (based on the 135" screen 350mm from ceiling 2700 height) is not too bad but i would test it at 600mm

The manual for your chosen projo will tell you the drop height specs.. but i guarentee you wont need to mount it central to the image
