Recommended Posts

Item: Rexophone “The Elf”
Location: Lynbrook 3975 LOCAL PICKUP PREFERRED.
Price: $600
Item Condition: Reconditioned and new casing made. Works well.
Reason for selling: Downsizing and no real place for it in our new home.
Payment Method: Pickup - Cash, Paypal
Extra Info: Rexophone gramaophone. The casing was remade in the 90’s but the mechanics are original early 20th century. The motor mechanism is from Thorens Switzerland. British Concert sound box. Horn is brass but the original horn may have been Paper Mache as this was commonplace for portable gramophones. The speed is adjustable to suit the various standards of the day. Needs are replaceable and a needle box is included.

Ok, it’s not exactly Hi Fi, but it is a turntable. We have had this for 25 years and it sat in our homes as a much loved furniture piece with occasional use. However we have no place for it as we downsize. Rexophone was a local manufacturer from NSW that imported and manufactured gramophones up to the 1930’s. Also with the gramophone is a stack of 78’s including a Zonophone single sided disc from the period of WW1 .

I often wonder, how do people come up with these concepts initially?

Let's get a round black thing with grooves on it, stick a a needle on it. Hey, bingo, music.

People a lot smarter than me, for sure.

Bloody wonderful. Eternally grateful.
