Upgrade from AT OC9 / III

Recommended Posts

I have been running an AT OC9 / III in my Rock for a few years now and have the funds to try something different.

TT is Townsend Rock mkII with Audio Origami VdH rewire and Origil Live stub mod.

Phono is a Vincent PHO-8, so MM/MC both ok

Budget is around $1500

I have a Garrott K2 and Shure V15 III/ jico neo SAS too.

Music: Just about anything, I lean more towards Rock and Prog with a bit of Acoustic thrown in for good measure.

Suggestions please.

Or should I upgrade the phono? same budget.

Got it in one, Steve!  :thumb:

Seriously, the AT OC9 / III's specs say " 15 - 50,000Hz " - so it has a very fast rise time and will thus respond to transients, excellently.  I expect you'd have to pay considerably more than your $1500 budget to get hold of a better-sounding LOMC.

I agree with Andy except I would say find a second hand Whest PS30R for around $1500 you will be well rewarded.  If you can get one at that price you won't look back.

This one is a bit more but if you can stretch.

Yes that one is but if you use hifi shark you can put a watch in place that will flag others. I referenced it so you could see what they look like and typical pricing.  I bought the last one that came up in Australia.

The Uk available are the next model up which is substantially more expensive.

I have just arranged to buy back a Van den Hul DDT II special, we'll see how that goes.
