Just purchased a new LG 70” TV

Recommended Posts

I had a brain fade yesterday

Went out to see what is new in TVs and started negotiating on a good deal

Well I got a great deal on a 70” LG TV

This exact model - https://www.lg.com/au/tvs/lg-70UK6540PTA

So I have stepped up from an LG55” smart 3D TV

This 55” TV will be placed in another room

The story goes like this

Saw a TV box and leaning on it while watching the demo TVs on display

The salesman has a chat to me then he gets a phone call

He was a little pissed off

Anyhow I asked what was up

Answer

The TV I was leaning on was on lay buy for a few months and now the order was cancelled- the TV is also now a runout 2018 model

I see an opportunity

How much is this space taker if I pay cash and take it off your hands I ask

Comes back with a keen price and I say no you can do better

After a little back and forth

I paid $1545 + Delivery $55 Total $1600

Then I thought it would be prudent to to get 5 year warranty and used part of the savings

So delivery is today Saturday my time between 3 & 5 pm

A quick update

It has taken approximately 40 min to unpack and placed the TV into position with the help of my able daughter 👍🏼

Then about 5 minutes to plug in all the wiring and another 5 min to register the TV on my home network

WOW is the first response from the rest of the family when it came on

So far I have been testing different picture and sound settings including custom settings, and I will probably keep at it until I am happy

————-

The only issue I have is with the Fetch TV playing up - as it randomly restarts and sometimes bad TV replay

I have decided to take the Fetch box out of the source line altogether

So tomorrow I will need to go and buy a new Coaxial to F Type connector or a complete new cable to suit for direct antenna to TV connection

This morning I was testing the difference between free to air channels

DTV verses HD

Huge difference in quality

Damn, it's got a red spot on the screen. Mine's got a white one on the other side.... 🤣

Seriously though, that's a huge TV 🙂

I was looking to get a 75” TV as it would fit easily on the cabinet and also plenty of wall space

But i’m very happy with the 70”

Big change from the 55”

Back up a little and I will go into memory lane

26”

42”

55” 3D smart

70” Smart

You are obviously happy with your purchase. The LG IPS panel will deliver a great viewing angle but not so good with black levels. If your previous unit was an LG then this may not be an issue.

Enjoy the big screen

The 42” was a Samsung - and had nothing but issues with it

For the last TV - the 55” 3D smart - That was an LG

I like crisp blacks like most of us but as I’m in to my sixth century my eyes are not as good as before.

Hence the reason for a move to a larger screen size - to see the images better - so those sharp black issues don’t bother me so much

Just don’t want my hearing to fail me

The antenna cable I ordered has just arrived

Its a dual fitting from a coaxial wall fitting to an F type TV fitting

Went all out and got an RG6 quad shield

Just made the decision to cancel the Optus Fetch Box subscription as nothing is new and why should I have to pay for ads ( and I mean more time taken than free TV ads )

This cable will eliminate the set top box

I only use my Fetch TV box as a PVR (which it works well as), and for Catch Up TV, so there is no ongoing subscription payment. I bought it from a store, rather than as part of an ISP package though, and it's not locked to an ISP. The handy thing is that I also have a Fetch Mini in the shed, which enables me to watch anything on the Mighty, in the house, and manage and set recordings from there too.

I was going to keep the Fetch Box as well but had lots of restarts and issues with the last update

I am willing to forgo the PVR for now as a trial

So I did some research on the LG TV features and it has catch up TV ect

If it has the "expert Technicolor" settings that my LG SK8500 has, I find this offsets a lot of the CR issues at wider viewing angels... don't ask me how, but very impressive gypsy magic ;-)
