If you are looking at this ad then you know exactly what this is... !

This unit was VTL’s answer to the world’s most expensive and revered DAC of the time (1990) the STAX DAC-X1T. Both the STAX and the VTL sported by UltraAnalog UA D20400 DAC chip. The STAX having a price tag of USD$14000 and the VTL USD$7000. The Ultra-analog chips were reported to have cost 10-20 times more to produce than that of the Philips TDA1541 Crown chips found in very high end Marantz, Sony, AMR, Zanden and numerous other units. Both the STAX and the VTL were the subject of numerous reviews at their time of release and both were praised and touted as “world class” reference quality convertors. One such review(er), from Stereophile magazine, stated that for sheer performance vs. value for money that his preference were for VTL’s product.

These units practically never pop up for sale and this particular one is in great condition and comes with its original owners manual. A 240V unit and all four 12AT7’s are near new and come with their original PSVane boxes.

Reason for selling? Only to fund another purchase.

Happy to audition. Pick up from Geelong or West Footscray. Drop off in Melbourne can be arranged. Happy to post if need be.
