Identify this Grace tonearm

Recommended Posts

Clearing out unneeded audio gear and came across this old Grace tonearm I used to have installed on a Rega 3 in the mid eighties.

Bought from Encel in Melbourne and only used for a short time before being replaced with a Grace G707 (as latter supposedly a better match to the F9E/L cartridges I had).

Was wondering if anyone was familiar with the model as I don't have its original box (in the G707 box).

The arm pillar has '54602' on it, but I guess that's a serial No(?).

Looking online I think it may be a G-1040, something with a '10' at the front rings a bell.

After considering my current listening habits I'm in the process of rationalising my system and vinyl is no longer my primary music source.

I've already sold my much loved Graham Phantom arm and was intending to sell my TNT and just get a Rega or something similar to spin records.

However I'm intrigued by the G-1040, the bearings feel good with no apparent play and it appears to be a heavier arm suited to the Denon 103R - of which I have several.

The idea of having a retro turntable setup is somehow appealing.

The original plinth/platter from the TNT is now 30yrs old and the G-1040 approaching 40yrs. With a Denon 103R and using my Cary tube phono - the circuit appears identical to the the old RCA tube manual phono but with 6SL7's - there'd be more than a hint of retro going on.

I'm a bit nostalgic about the Grace arm, with the Rega 3 it was my first seperate sourced table/arm (following a Luxman PD264).

I like the look of the Grace sitting on the TNT as well:
