C'mon Keith!!     How could you possible go for the druggo steroid boi Rafa. :P    Go Nick - whip Rafa's bucket arssse and send Uncle Tony back to Spain .

Shane, I've got no evidence that Rafa is a drug cheat and I do know these players are tested constantly throughout the year. Apart from all that though, Rafa is a class act and a great ambassador for the game and Kygrios is the exact opposite, IMO of course. I may be old fashioned in this regard, but the sooner Kyrgios and Tomic finish their careers and get out of the game, the better....................there is nothing that can be said to condone their behaviour on or off the court.

Very timely to this discussion

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/tennis/channel-seven-under-fire-for-missing-the-barty-party-20190702-p523hq.html

I was looking forward to watching Barty but went back to the music.  It seems that Channel 7 preferred showing the male brat rather than a nice female champion. Oh, she is the No. 1 seed and No. 1 in the world...   And AUSSIE!  Go figure?

excellent press conference from Nick and shows another side of Nick imo.

Just listen to some of the idiotic click bait questions from the press and how Nick answers them and puts them into their place.

I am giving him far too much air:

Quote

Kyrgios, 24, insisted after the match he wouldn't change his ways, and said supporters would keep watching him because they wanted to be entertained.

i.e. people are attracted to him because they know they will see a car crash. Agree with Rafter here

https://www.theage.com.au/sport/tennis/cash-is-kyrgios-the-male-version-of-anna-kournikova-20190703-p523kf.html

End of rant, no more post from me about him...

I'd rather watch Anna. ;)

Personally I was amazed when I realised that, “ he who shall not be named” , was playing Super Mario. I hope that he is teaming up with Luigi for the doubles.

I don’t think that Mr personality realises that if he continues to loose matches he should win he will find himself playing qualifying matches , image the effort he would put into those, and his career will rapidly come to a grinding halt. I don’t see much of a future on the coaching circuit for him and our other male ray of light who took a straight sets beating last night.

What an absolute joy it is to watch Ash Barty play tennis.😀😀

No grunts, no squeals, no temper tantrums--and REAL tennis.

Go Ash!

I am no expert but I think Nick would be Bi Polar and would not have a lot of control over what's going on between the ears at times!

As for Bernie, he is just milking it for every penny he can get out of the game from zero effort.

What do people think of the teen sensation Coco Gauff? She reminds me a lot of the Williams sisters, same arrogant, divine belief that they will be No. 1.  I thought that maybe we will be free of that arrogance soon as the William sisters fade away.

Stayed up and watched the Nadal vs Kyrgios game and it was well worth it. Easily the best game this week. For what it is worth, Nick played like a top ten player, his current ranking is a joke. It is also interesting and instructive to read what Rafa has to say about Nick after the match (https://www.rolandgarros.com/en-us/article/lesson-to-be-learned-from-nadal-kyrgios-wimbledon-2019).

I still think Nick Kyrgios is the breath of fresh air needed in the men's game; he just need to get his act together.

I agree LHC. To my mind Kyrgios can be the McEnroe of this generation. He does bring excitement and personality to an increasingly vanilla set of men. I just want anyone outside the top three who seem to have been the only contenders for fifteen years.

However, to make a true impact and reach his obvious potential he needs to bring the real deal to every Grand Slam or he will continue to bow out early to lesser players. He is still young and strong as an ox but to have an extended career he will need to reach that fitness level and mental fortitude of elite sportsmen. He will earn enough in the mean time to retire in the lap of luxury but that would be a waste if he doesn’t give it all he is capable of. I hope one day he is remembered like McEnroe, a temperamental genius, and gives us all a good laugh commentating the tennis. It will be interesting to see which way it goes.

On a lighter note I see that Hewitt is playing doubles with Super Mario, obviously Luigi must be carrying an injury.

Dunno, Snoopy. She is a talent with great belief. I don't see the comparison with Serena yet and there is nothing wrong with Venus as far as attitude is concerned. She is just feeling her age as she slips from the top top ranked players.

Good to see Barty live again.

But Channel 7, in VIC & TAS decided to start the telecast on 72 while 7HD showed the post match of an AFL game. Surely they could have chopped that crap. And while I was writing this, heard that NSW & QLD switched to 7HD mid way through the second set.  Channel 7 still not respecting tennis fans :angry2:

I know Barty played a qualifier last night but she was still impressive.

The bigger tests await her in this tournament.

How will she go?

 😭  Aargh!

No more Barty ...

Riske, as her name suggests, took plenty of risks with her shots and it paid off.  Blasted Barty off the court and a deserved winner.

Meanwhile Rafa's going through Sousa like a dose of salts. I think Djokovic is the only thing that's going to stop him hoisting the silverware.

Federer seems to find it increasingly difficult to get over Novak and Rafa. I'd like to see him win it but I wouldn't put money on him doing it.

Yep, and probably more so with Novak than Rafa, Martin. Roger has lost the last three against Novak and even though he lost the last outing against Rafa at Rolan Garros [but who beats Rafa there anyway!] he was 6 - 0 head to head against Rafa going back to 2015 prior to that. It'll be different on grass of course because clay is not Roger's favourite surface, with hard court probably his best surface, but he's pretty handy on the Wimbledon grass too!:D

Cheers,

Keith

Barty fought to the end but could not find that first serve when she needed it. It would not surprise me to see Riske beat Serena in the quarters.

Never had time for her either. I think Serena's worst act was stealing all the limelight and oxygen from Naomi Osaka when she won the US Open.  Her arrogance and temper explosions are bad enough on their own, but to take someone's moment away from their maiden tennis major win is unforgivable.

yep, agree. That was her statement to the world "im bigger than the game'.  Cant stand her.  If that situation was reversed, Serena would have also lost it..

Riske played a magic game against Barty and (disappointingly) deserved her win.

Now if only she could learn to shut up while on-court. I can't comment for Barty but I found the grunts  on every shot very distracting. (One of my pet hates.😠) Strangely enough, sound is important to me.😁
