Audiophile Olympics????

Recommended Posts

Sitting and talking (mostly rubbish) and possibly imbibing a little with my BIL Jeremy.... Anyways, we are thinking about the Audiophile HiFi Olympics.

So who would win!

The whole system would have to fit within within some criteria of course:

Our initial thoughts:

1. All components/products from the one country of origin.

2. Digital or Vinyl front end, or both? Let the contestants decide, you can bet on the red or the black?

3. Integrated, seperates and active events?

Dunno, thoughts?

Certainly!

That wasn't the point of our idea though!

More along the lines of, would Germany end up 1/100th of a second in front of the USA who touched out ..... for third, etc. etc.

Would Australia make the final?

High end end systems comprised of components all exclusively from USA, Germany, Japan, Canada, Italy, France, Poland, China, England, Australia, etc. etc.

Of course you'd have to decide who hosts! Mustn't forget the room!

Brands who normally compete against each other would be forced (encouraged) to compete side by side.

(Sure we are being a bit silly....)

IMO

Like most other things;

USA gold medal ( they make the best gear )

Japan silver medal ( marginally behind)

Germany (bronze)

the dark horses would be Canada and France.

I had considered this very seriously in the past as an extension of the International Hi-Fi Show, to be held in Dubai, with 1 x single origin system from each country or region. Judges made up of HiFi Press from around the world. How each country would put forward its best system would be a can of worms though.

Was a great idea in my mind for all of about 20 mins of mulling. :)

Didn't really want to touch the subjective/objective minefield. Flames are not my intent ...

Did occur to me that the skills of the testers can be a competitive thing.
ie. Similar to how wine tasting Judges actually have their skills measured to make sure that they are qualified to make that call. And they do compete - ie. ability to make good decisions about what they are tasting.

just thinking out loud .. can be dangerous :)

Don't forget Neville Thiele and Richard Small ... they had a massive influence on loudspeaker design the world over.

Mark Dohman should be on the team as well for turntable design.

Also Max Townshend and Stewart Tyler.

Probably all more notable for world wide recognition than most of the names put forward so far.
