Mobile phone 'horn' speaker

Recommended Posts

I saw this a while back during dinner (apparently my wife gets indigestion if we watch football during dinner!): https://www.bhg.com.au/retro-timber-phone-speaker

It sparked a little interest. Obviously it won't be any great shakes in fidelity, but I notice my new phone has twin speakers (a Pixel something) and I was wondering if anyone had seen anything else along the same lines? I think there's a stand made of rubber out there for Iphones, and I've seen another printable version of something that looks like an ear horn (in white).

I wonder what specs you could use to try to improve the tinny sound you get when just playing sound via the phone speaker(s)...

overkill for a phone

a good compression driver would be preferable!

Hi Ian,

It's not so much for me...OK, it is, but it's to train my wife to not listen to just the phone (when she's planning an exercise class). Listening to that tinny screech from the Ipod or phone is like nails on a blackboard (which actually doesn't really bother me).

So if I can hey her to slot the phone or Ipod into a simple horn amplifier, then life in the Ears household will be much more pleasant.

I was thinking of Dave's idea - using the 'design' in the video - and seeing if I can get a pleasant (if not decent) sound out of it. Maybe with two separate 'seats' so it can be used interchangeably with her two music machines. And so she can see the screen while the sound is playing.

My friend made one out of modelling board.   Made the phone much louder.

Dave, did he have a design, or just and idea and some time?
