HypnoToad
On Unbuntu I tried Sound Juicer and it's good but way too slow, so I got Asunder which takes around five minutes to do one CD in FLAC and what I like about it is that it puts all the names in my favorite format, it's like the porridge to me it's just right.. Bill Katz
I’m using the Aria Digibit server/streamer, non dac version. It rips CD’s in all the formats, but l only rip them in flac. It has a database that it retrieves the metadata for the CD, downloads all the art work and you can see on your tablet, all controlled by a tablet. I’m not currently doing anything multi room, I’m also challenged with the best way to get Ethernet set up into an old house where there is no practical way to retro fit a wired network. Should I start a separate topic for that? Thanks all, much to consider. I have wired my house with Ethernet. It’s very do-able with a little mucking about and patience. You can buy a big spool of Cat6 for not much (about $100), and you need a special kit to terminate each end (about $50). You need wall plates and have to be comfortable making holes in plaster and fitting the metal brackets onto wall studs behind. I ran them all through the roof (or under floor) and into a cupboard..... All possible! Best of luck.... Cheers, Jason. Man you could rent it out! I’d be tempted!!

There's no way this thing is going out on loan, butI'd be happy to rip for people. It has been loaned out to prominent audiophile shops before and had all sorts of rubbish installed on it! There are costs to operating a machine like this, about $1 per disc. Cheers, Jason.

Add record cleaning (ultrasound + vacuum + re-sleeve) and you’ll pay your way around Australia. Godot
It is quite awhile since I started this topic! Long enough to have saved and updated equipment to support a convienient solution that allows for excellent easy ripping, storage, backup, streaming and listening pleasure. For those that suggested trying options and reporting back, well after all the time that has passed: I tried the ethernet over powerlines adapters, but they injected a lot of noise, very audible, aweful, you could hear them as soon as they were turned on versus off. So I have now ended up with an Antipodes EX plus P1 ripper, straight from router to EX with ethernet Cat 6 cable, excellent SQ, easy to use, rips from internal storage on SSDs in EX sound great, also painless streaming of Tidal with Roon. I have thought about the Bluesound, maybe it would be okay using my dac? I have tried vinyl ripping, kudos to anyone with the time and patience for doing so, I just went back to playing it old school! I ripped all mine the same uncompressed FLAC using DBpoweramp. Note: these means one 1-for-1 with CD size, the adavantage of FLAC that metadata can be added to the file.

Past 3, the space gain becomes minimal anyway.

Presumably he's of the opinion the compression affects playback due to the CPU requirements of decompression, which is why some people still insist on using wavs. (No, I don't do either, I use compressed flacs.)
