For sale is a pair of Electrocompaniet's AW180 monoblocks. My AW180's formed part of my reference system for nearly a decade, and I wouldn't part with them willingly, but... need to raise some cash for our new house. (I've already been in trouble for suggesting we look into what one of the kids are worth, and I was only talking about a kidney, not an entire one! Wives have no sense of humour).

These are high-end bits of kit in nearly anyone's language. I'll avoid the spiel - there are plenty of reviews online. They're still a current model - Aussie HiFi have them listed for $15,499.00 currently,

I've used them to drive everything from Focal Utopia Minis, to big hulking B&W CDM9-NT's, up to Quad ESL2905 Electrostat panels. These have never broken a sweat

The Good

Sound: effortless. I'm not great with hi-fi superlatives, but "liquid" is a good one. SO smooth.

Power: 250w @ 8 ohms, 380w @ 4 ohms, 625w @ 2 ohms.

Weight: 22kg's. Each.
Style: on point. Seriously, they're fun to look at!

The Bad

One has had a visit to the doctor - it got surged in a storm. My hope that it was "just a fuse" was dashed,  and ended up being an $850 repair bill, with EC parts from overseas. It turns out that EC in Australia is only serviced by certain dealers (which is fair enough), but when you've got 25kg in insured shipping both down and back to a dealer down south, the freight bill alone was prohibitive!

I've used them extensively since, and the repair was top notch. tonal balance, volume, etc is still perfectly matched.

The Ugly

Living in Cairns is great. If you like the heat. Unfortunately, I went away for a few weeks over summer a few years ago, and we got a heat wave. All my equipment was turned off, but the plastic shock absorbers built into the feet on the amp melted. They were actually glued to my tiles!! Not realising this, I literally ripped off a foot, and cracked another before getting a spatula and easing the rest off.

I tracked down the price of some genuine feet for them, and decided to buy a house instead. Wasn't paying that much money - no way. So, I simply sat the old one back on, secured with blutack (don't judge me), and found another (silver) foot as a temp. I went to eBay and found some awesome solid metal feet to upgrade both amps. Haven't put them on yet, as I'm lazy, and have been using my Plinius amp due to space restrictions. These will be included in the sale.

I've priced the amps according to the issues above. Happy to answer questions and consider offers.

Freight: happy to go 50/50 with the prospective buyer, but the freight needs to be insured! I don't have the boxes for these guys, so I'll have to go bananas with the packing, or use Pack and Send.

I've added in a stock image to show off how good they really do look, because my photography skills don't do these things justice.

Thanks for looking!
