Phono Stage Recommendations

Hi Everyone,

 

I'm considering upgrading my Cambridge 640P soon.

 

Would appreciate your thoughts on:

 

Dynavector P75 mk3

 

Pro-Ject Phono Box RS

 

Musical Fidelity M1 ViNL

 

 

 

Current cart is a Dynavector 10 x 5 am currently using a Thorens table but am upgrading to a VPI Classic Signature (keeping 10x5 until it needs replacing)

 

Max budget would be $1500.

 

Would you anticipate a noticeable improvement going from a 640P to the above short list.

An LCR might blow any of those away - but - don't know about availability as all the ones from ebay vendor appear to have gone.. the lounge audio website might work. R.

Personally I'd buy second hand. There is a EAR 834p on SNA for a $1000

Yup, my vote too, would be for the Lounge Audio LCR - I suspect that this could be extraordinary value.

 

Depending on your amp-spkr setup, it should have enough Gain for your 10x5.

 

(At least as much as the 640P (MM version).)

I have the 640P in which I've changed the opamps, small improvement.

 

Then I bought a Dyna P75/2,a lot better to my ears.

 

Upgraded to the P75/3 after I got my Garrott P77 going again with an SAS stylus, as I had hum problems.Better again.

 

The P77 is a lot more musical than my 640P.

Thanks for your replies guys, ended up going in a different direction due to a good deal on a used MF M1 ViNL.

 

 

 

Early days, but so far a huge improvement on the 640p as far as soundstage and detail.
