Papa Hemi
Yes I will do as I am told. If I had a spare $7k I would not buy the JBLs tho', I'd need a bigger room. Lovely gear but..

Not the most subtle sounding (or looking!) speakers however... Those A700s look like they have plans for world domination And yes Papa, the same seller has some very nice JBLs for sale - sigh... Cooksferry
I'd love to try something like those- if only my room was bigger than a broom closet:(

Ernie1553552694
I used to joke that Klipsch speakers could be driven by a clock radio. This guy was using a portable CD player to power the La Scalas. There would be less than 0.5W source output by my reckoning.

Ooh nice! I'm a sucker for big ol' ugly speakers A little more room friendly too (well, compared to the A700s).

Beeman
Either way the A7 uses a 511B horn not a mantaray

Beeman
Whoops sorry my mistake - the A700 as apposed to the A7 does in fact have a Mantary horn - good buying I would say
MosfetMainac
Tempted....... what do you fellas think of them? good buying? (A700) Haven't had much experience in this type of speaker but it does take my interest.
Ayou21553552688
a guy i know played me some Tracy Chapman through a pair of those (I'm not 100% certain but they did look alot like them) ..... absolutely bowled me over. Like I've heard speakers at $50k+ that could not lay a patch on those for realness & dynamics. Knowing you'd get your money back if you ddin't like them ... if it were me I'd take the punt /. gortnipper
They should sound great and punch above the price point - especially with a nice tube amp with high output impedance.
gortnipper
Hah! Just had post #604! Very fortuitous that it was an Altec post!

(A700) Haven't had much experience in this type of speaker but it does take my interest. They would be a lot of fun I would say - efficent enough for low output valve amps. May lack very low bass (the A7s do) but nothing too bad. Need to be wound up to really sing but can convey good dynamics at low volume (bass is more rolled off at low volume though). More a "live" sound than a "hi-fi" sound...
