DIY audio: what are you building?

Just a bit of modding on a mate's Douk Phonobox, had some 1uf Jupiter Copper and Wax caps along with a pair of ETI Tellurium Copper sockets not doing anything so in they went to give a friend some pleasurable tunes.

Unfortunately his Ming Da amp blew a mains fuse before we had a chance to put the Phonobox back in the system, but will hear the results tomorrow when I drop the Ming Da back over after a bit more of a checkup. No idea what caused the fuse to blow, cathode resistors are all OK and no issues I can see/find.

@Rob181 The Ming Da is the little MC-34B running EL34 Wingged C's with some cap mods, nothing extreme, but is all good and working fine again (nice little amp but a 34AB would have been nice),  the Jupiters added to the Phonobox have added some nice natural tonality along with other attributes these are know for.

I spray all of mine on the dust bin lid. Waist hieght. But there was so much over spray on the lid they refuse to collect the bin. I had to get the council to replace the lid. From now on I cover the lid with an old towel. Still some over spray.

Good effort so far. Nice to see a painted chassis rather than raw Al.

No photos but a busy weekend of tweaking.

Added a Digione hat to a Pi and loaded up Volumio - added roon server so now it does RAAT via SPDIF. Swapped out the Auricaps in my Naksa with V-Cap TFTF, swapped out the speaker outputs with ETI Pods - swapped out the nondescript caps in my Line Magnetic LM 502-CA with Mundorf silver gold in oil. Just swapped out my ML1+'s with references and upgraded to Lenehan Tune Stands. Can't wipe the smile off my dial with the sound I'm pulling from this setup !!

SE UL the only way to go with these tubes. Good drive and mid-range weight.

Great job! Side question. Do you have any photos of the speakers and grills in the background? Are they diy metal grills? I'd love some more details on what you used and how if so? ta

Thanks!

The speakers are Elsinores designed by Joe Rasmussen, the grille material is black aluminum which you can get from an automotive shop

I hope this helps

Stereo Subs & Two Way Monitor Build

It’s been slow going on my two way monitor with stereo sub build but I’ve finally finished finished one of the two subs!!!

The subs are 10inch CSS drivers with 2 x passive radiators (185grams) in 56L cabinet tuned to 27hz.

The cabinets are made out of 18mm MDF, rebated with router and cross braced. The front baffle is 48mm and has angled facets which I did with tracksaw.

It did take a while to get the angles right but overall happy with how they came out.

Don’t really believe in too much lining on sub cabinets so just some underlay felt on few sides. I put far more focus on getting the bracing as solid as possible.

The cabinet was primed in 3 coats of shellac primer, 3 coats of gloss black enamel base coat then finished with 4 coats of 2k gloss clear to 2500grit before buff and polish.

The sub is driven by 500watts dsp plate amplifier.

Only just got it all together yesterday so haven’t had a chance to do final measurement but just broken it in and very happy with the result so far!

Here’s some pics of the build. Onto finishing off the other sub then onto the 2 way monitor build!!!
