Post Pictures Of Your Headphone Setup

Recommended Posts

My HD800 has regretfully left the stable. I'm certain I'll own it again in future, perhaps a custom ColorWare one next time.

This is what I'm slumming it with at the moment. Never been a huge fan of the LCD-2 (rev.2), though for some inexplicable reason this is the second one I've owned. This version though (latest iteration, in rosewood) sounds and looks much better than the early rev.2 I had. I probably still prefer the venerable HD650 to it. Unfortunately still waiting on a balanced cable for the HD650 so I can hear it from this setup.

Audeze are constantly improving these phones , latest versions sound superb.

Surprised to hear your comment on prefering the HD650 ??......recently sold my 650's , it wasn't even close.

Saw this in the LCD-2 thread on Head-fi. My LCD-2 looks the same (wood pattern/colour-wise) except it looks as if you've just recently added a coat of the provided wood care.

No. I've not recently added a coat of the wood care. This LCD-2 is mint. I've had it a while now but it hardly saw light of day when the HD800 was in the stable. The wood care kit and all other accessories are still unused and sealed.

Let us know the difference between single ended and Balanced is with your cans please! I have just purchased a Calyx 24/192 DAC. Tossing up whether it's worth purchasing a balanced headphone amp (WA22, Schiit Mjolnir (what are your impressions?) , Little Dot, Violectric) and then modding my T1's to twin XLR. It's a significant outlay, especially the WA22, and both T1's and Calyx have been purchased 2nd hand. I know that using my ears is the best bet though. May have to make an appointment with A2A and test a WA22. And then sell a lot of unused stuff!!

Out of all my audio gear, these are my most value for money buys. Mainly because it is the most used as this is what I use at my cubicle based, keyboard mashing job. It's not a very impressive looking setup, but it really gets my toes tapping, and my stress levels down.

Foobar (WASAPI) -> Audioquest DragonFly -> Sennheiser IE80 or UE Triple.Fi.10

I think the DF is a great product. On the non-sound quality front, I really appreciate its ease of use, portability, and discreet size. I will be travelling for a month soon, so the DF will come in very handing for plane flights and hotel rooms.

Sound quality from the DF is very good for a $300 DAC/Headamp. I think it pairs well with lower impedance earphones/headphones. It gives a more refined and detailed sound then my iPhone 4.

The DF is a fairly resolving DAC. More so than my HRT MSII, but less so then the Rega DAC and Stream Magic 6. I find it to have a fairly energetic sound. And if this is an introduction to ESS DAC chips, I'm interested to see what the higher end ESS can do. Ah, this audio game never stops, but, I guess it is the same for any technology based hobby.

My setup. Sadly I haven't heard it for a while now since my interest has taken a drastic turn. Awesome thing about audio though is it lasts for years!

Nice Fractal case, I had one before I upgraded to Silverstone FT02. How does the STX go? I have been tempted to get one purely for gaming and running it into a 2nd input of my headamp, and leave the Calyx for music. I have never had the opportunity to play with a STX.

That's the Fractal full tower.......had a mid before that.

Got the big one because it had USB 3 and I went to water cooling.

STX is a great card..........haven't swapped op amps or anything with it.............though, you need to adjust the gain in the control panel to match your phones.

The only one  that comes near it is my Audigy 2 Platinum Pro.

Beautiful amp, I want.

I spy an AP2, PurePower, Audioengine A5, LCD-2 vegan with Q-cable, Dell U2410, Razer DeathAdder, Razer Goliathus, and W4S DAC2.

Interesting, I'd heard that the Valhalla wasn't enough grunt to run the 701's.

I have different stuff (Benchmark DAC-1 USB) but the Yamamoto is a keeper... The Alessandro's less so...

I've usually just used headphones with my iPod or office setup, where some bog standard Sennheisers do the job. However things have changed quite a bit in the home rig since Christmas!

A new set of Stax SR-307 Cans received as a Xmas present from Mrs HTM :love . I really like the new Stax range, it does everything the old range did, but with a bit more oomph in the bass. The kids provided the stand which was great.

The accompanying "SRM 323S driver unit for earspeakers", or headphone amp to normal folks. The only complaint I have is that there is no mark on the volume control that I can see, which means that I need to be very cautious about the first track I listen to.

Yep, it shows up in the photo but is next to bloody invisible for practical usage. Great headphones though....sorry earspeakers  .

Coming soon:

Cymer (Elson Silva) push-pull valve dual output headphone amp (30 Ohms and 300Ohms for my AKG 701 and Sennheiser HD650 phones respectively) built into a very flexible line-level preamp. Preamp and headphone amp cohabit the same box, with power supply in a separate box.

Photos when installed (hopefully late January or sooner).
